Ceffo Fire and Rescue responded to 4 calls so far today. 2 mutual aid calls to structure fires, a woods fire and a chimney fire in our District. We would like to thank the departments that responded with us. Our members often give up time with their families, miss meals and don’t get to spend their day off working around the house. Our dedicated volunteers work hard to provide fire protection for our community.

Due to gusty winds and low relative humidity, there's an increased fire danger on Sunday across all of central NC.

11/30/2021

Due to increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective at 5 p.m. today until further notice.

“It is fall wildfire season in North Carolina, and we are seeing wildfire activity increase due to dry conditions,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “With these ongoing conditions, a statewide burn ban is necessary to reduce the risk of fires starting and spreading quickly. Our top priority is always to protect lives, property and forestland across the state.”

CHANGE CLOCKS AND SMOKE ALARM BATTERIES

Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday morning at 2am, so when you go to bed tonight set your clock ahead one hour. It's also time to change the battery in your smoke alarms and test them to be sure they are working properly. Smoke Alarms save lives, but only if they are working.

FOR A BROTHER

Firefighters and apparatus from Person, Durham, Orange, and Wake counties and beyond were on hand this morning at Somerset Baptist Church in Roxboro for a memorial service for John Gentry. Johnny was a friend and mentor to many of us and epitomized the concept of service to one's community. We will miss him dearly. Your shift is over brother, go boldly, we'll take it from here.

This story and video do a good job of explaining why a quick exit is so important. When the smoke alarm goes off (you do have them, right?), get out fast. Your life is more valuable than your stuff.

Research shows that 30 years ago, you had about 17 minutes to escape a house fire. Today, you have only 3 or 4 minutes. TODAY national investigative correspondent Jeff Rossen conducts a dramatic demonstration that shows why, and how you should prepare.
