Important information to keep in mind if you’re voting by mail for the June 23rd primary or the general election on Nov 3rd.

Voter registration forms, address changes, mail-in ballots and absentee ballots all have deadlines tied to the postmark on that piece of mail when received.

The new rule about how the USPS applies postmarks means voters need to act earlier than they may have in the past to ensure the postmark meets the stated deadlines, or make a special request to guarantee a postmark on the day they hand over that mail.

Without making a request, a postmark will not be applied until it arrives at a USPS processing facility and will not necessarily match the date on which the customer's mail was collected by a letter carrier or dropped off at a retail location.

You can ensure that a postmark is applied to your piece of mail, and that the date on the postmark matches the date of mailing, by visiting a Postal Service retail location and requesting a manual (local) postmark at the retail counter when passing on their mail to be delivered.

Manual postmarks will be applied free of charge.

Every vote counts, so let's make sure every vote is counted!

Will is a Missouri-born farmer and political strategist focused on rural advocacy. Raised in southwest Missouri, his early life—and a childhood farm accident that left him with limited use of his left arm—shaped his commitment to improving conditions in rural America.

He began his political career on the Clinton-Gore campaign and later founded Highlander Political Strategies, working with Democratic candidates, labor groups, and nonprofits.
