Egleston Square Branch of the Boston Public Library

Egleston Square Branch of the Boston Public Library Local branch library serving the Egleston Square community in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. There are also a strong Sci-Fiction and Poetry collections.

DISTINCTIVE ASPECTS OF THE COLLECTION
The main draws of this branch are preschool and school visits and after-school hang-out/homework time, and the collection reflects that use. Over half of the library’s space and materials are devoted to Children’s and Teen materials. Bright spots in the Youth Collection include graphic novels (including a separate manga section), picture books, and an extensiv

e selection of illustrated chapter books for early elementary readers. The Teen area supports teens with extensive recreational fiction, with a focus on recent realistic and genre fiction by Black, Latinx, and indigenous authors. The Adult section, which is in the back half of the open plan library, reflects interests and ambitions of customers. ESL, Test Prep Books, and Entrepreneurial books and computer books are very popular. For recreational materials there are large collections of Street Lit, DVDs, audio books and magazines. Spanish language materials are found in every section of the library from bilingual pre-school books to non-fiction adult materials. PROGRAMMING

We have many recurring programs, including Preschool Storytime, Homework Help, LEGO Club, and Kids Cook for youth, and Food & Book Club and Tech Goes Home for adults. Check our calendar or events page for upcoming special programs. HISTORY
Opened on July 8, 1953 the building was designed by the firm of Isidor Richmond and Carney Goldberg, Architects and Engineers. The Friends of the Egleston Square branch have plans for beautification project of the large backyard which includes landscaping, sculptures and a sitting wall.
