One of the things I love most about being a mobile notary is that no 2 days ever look exactly the same.

Recently, I received a call from a woman who urgently needed documents notarized for a court case taking place the very next day. The problem? She lived well outside my normal service area deep in Lewis County and was understandably stressed about both time and cost.

Normally, a trip that far would require a significant travel fee, and she simply did not have much extra money to work with.

Thankfully, I had some flexibility in my schedule, so instead of having her panic or risk not getting the documents completed in time, we came up with another solution.

We met in Eatonville at a local gas station so she could get her documents notarized quickly, conveniently, and at a much more affordable price.

And honestly? Sometimes mobile notary work looks less like a fancy office and more like turning the back of my Bronco into a temporary signing station šŸ˜„

At the end of the day, being a mobile notary means finding practical solutions and helping people when they need it most, whether that means coming directly to you or meeting somewhere convenient along the way.

Another client helped. Another stressful situation made a little easier.

šŸ“¦ Smudge’s Box Thoughts of the Day 🐾

No boxes for me today, peasants.

I have decided to spend my Sunday lounging in a lovely patch of cool shady grass because Mom has informed me that ā€œit’s going to be a hot week Smudgie Mudgieā€ As if I wasn’t already aware. I literally walk around wearing a permanent fur coat.

I’ve been making my usual rounds across the estate, inspecting all 47 of the bird baths Mom has strategically placed around the property like she’s running some kind of luxury bird spa.

Now let me tell you something… outdoor water? Superior. Elite. Premium hydration. It has flavor.

Indoor water tastes clean.
Outdoor water tastes dangerous.

I prefer dangerous.

Meanwhile these completely unhinged birds are out here throwing pool parties in my water dishes, flopping around like they own the place. I like to sit quietly and observe while imagining how delicious some of them might actually be. Some creatures see birds as friends…

I see charcuterie.

And then there are these ridiculous tiny rocket birds Mom calls hummingbirds.

I don’t even bother trying.

I have standards.

I may be beautiful, athletic, and devastatingly intelligent…

…but I am not about to waste my valuable energy chasing something that appears to have no respect for the laws of physics.

So for now I’ll be spending the rest of my afternoon staying cool, judging wildlife, and pretending I have never been fed a single meal in my entire life despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Stay hydrated.

Avoid unnecessary movement.

And if you happen to be a bird…

…watch your back.

Most people think a notary appointment is pretty straightforward. A few signatures, a stamp, maybe a quick ID check… easy, right?

But one of my favorite parts of being a mobile notary is that every appointment is a little different, especially when I’m meeting clients in their homes. And sometimes… I get introduced to some pretty unforgettable members of the family.

This spring alone, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a snake, an alpaca, a guinea pig, and one particularly memorable family of emus.

Not just one emu… 4 adults and 2 adorable baby chicks.

Of course, proud papa emu was taking his parenting duties very seriously. The moment I stepped down into the yard to say hello to the babies, he made it very clear that visitors were not exactly welcome. Let’s just say introductions were brief because he was fully committed to protecting his little ones and was absolutely ready to launch an attack.

While most of my appointments involve the usual cats and dogs supervising the signing table, lately my clients have been surprising me with some far more unique assistants.

One thing I’ve learned in this business… you never know what kind of signing appointment awaits you, and sometimes the most memorable part of the job has nothing to do with the documents.

And honestly… I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What’s the most unusual pet YOU’ve ever met?

Most people think mobile notary work is just showing up with a stamp and watching people sign paperwork.

If only it were that simple. šŸ˜†

Behind every successful appointment is basically a small traveling command center packed into my notary bag.

Inside this bag lives:
• multiple pens because at least 1 WILL vanish into another dimension during every signing
• blank notarial certificates
• sticky notes
• chargers
• business cards
• my official notary stamp
• extra supplies for last minute surprises
• dog and cat treats because many of my clients have furry ā€œsupervisorsā€ and honestly, I fully support their involvement

You’ll also see one of my most important pieces of equipment, my portable Epson scanner. In the loan signing world, many title companies require ā€œscanbacks,ā€ meaning signed documents have to be scanned and securely returned immediately after the appointment, often before I even leave the signer’s driveway. Once approved, the original documents are carefully packaged and shipped back to title as well. That little scanner has probably logged more road miles across Pierce and Thurston County than some people’s suitcases. šŸ˜†

Mobile notary work is part organization, part customer service, part logistics coordinator, and part professional problem solver.

And then there’s the notary journal.

Not exactly glamorous, but absolutely essential. Washington State notaries are legally required to maintain a secure journal documenting notarial acts, and mine goes with me to every appointment.

And of course… plenty of Girl Friday Notary Services pens to hand out because almost every signer says:
ā€œOoooh I like this penā€¦ā€

Trust me, I already know it’s probably not coming back. šŸ˜‚

This business may look simple from the outside, but there’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes to make appointments smooth, professional, and convenient for my clients.

Also not pictured:
• snacks
• emergency backup supplies
• pet hair
• and me trying to remember where I parked after a 2 hour loan signing

Smudge’s Box Thoughts of the Day

Mother has purchased me a luxury mobile command center so I may safely supervise the neighborhood peasants from the comfort of my royal observation pod.

As she should.

Apparently ā€œwalking on the groundā€ is something regular cats do. I would not know anything about that life.

All Mom has to do is unzip the tiny side door and I come sprinting across the house like the goblin princess I am. No graceful entrance. No elegance. Just tiny gray chaos moving at alarming speed because MY POD HAS ARRIVED.

And honestly, as a feline curator of enclosed spaces, this thing was destined to become mine immediately.

I have extremely high standards when it comes to containers.

Boxes.
Laundry baskets.
Paper bags.
Amazon deliveries.
Freshly folded laundry.
The one important document Mom JUST sat down on the counter.

Naturally, I inspected it immediately and claimed it for royal use.

Now I get escorted around my royal grounds in my deluxe bubble carriage while the public stares in admiration. Birds are monitored. Squirrels are judged. Neighborhood gossip is collected. Dogs are evaluated on a case by case basis.

The best part is watching humans notice me through the bubble and completely lose their minds.

ā€œOh my gosh look at the cat!ā€

Yes. Please remain calm in the presence of royalty.

Also, since it’s Memorial Day weekend, I suppose I should briefly pause my demanding schedule to acknowledge the heroes who served and sacrificed for everyone’s freedom.

Including my freedom to yell at invisible enemies at 2:46 a.m., sprint through the house for no reason, and supervise every bathroom trip Mom takes.

Their sacrifice is appreciated. ā¤ļø

Now if you’ll excuse me, my transportation awaits and the peasants are unsupervised.

Smudge out.

I have reached a very important conclusion.

Humans are far too emotionally attached to the idea that a ā€œboxā€ must actually be made of cardboard.

Honestly, it feels a little closed minded.

As a sophisticated feline architect and part time household supervisor, I believe a box is more of a lifestyle choice than a material.

Which brings me to my newest discovery:
The Giant Water Box.

Some humans call it a ā€œsink.ā€
Cute.

This luxury water fortress has everything a growing princess could need.

Tall walls?
Yes.

Excellent acoustics for screaming at 3 a.m.?
Also yes.

Cool surface for dramatic lounging while pretending I have never eaten a day in my life?
Absolutely.

And let us discuss the tiny silver waterfall stick humans call a faucet. Fascinating technology. I can stare at it for 47 minutes waiting for a single drip. Sometimes it rewards my dedication. Sometimes it mocks me. Either way, enrichment.

Frankly, this sink box is superior to cardboard in every possible way.

Cardboard gets soggy and weak.
This thing laughs in the face of moisture.

Cardboard bends when I launch myself into it at full goblin speed.
This beast remains structurally sound.

I can scratch it.
Bite it.
Kick it with my back feet during imaginary combat.
Not even a dent.

And apparently, according to mom, it can also ā€œdispose of things.ā€

I once witnessed her place mysterious disgusting matter into the hole at the bottom, press a magical button, and the sink growled like an angry forest creature before swallowing the evidence completely.

Terrifying.
Impressive.
Convenient.

Would I personally use my luxury sink box as a litter box?
Only during times of national emergency.

Or revenge.

Anyway, I will continue my research from inside my premium hydration bunker while judging every living being that passes through my kingdom.

Carry on, peasants.

😼

P.S. Mom says while I supervise important sink operations, she is apparently some kind of notary wizard. Mobile notarizations, online notarizations, estate planning documents, real estate signings… honestly I don’t know what any of that means, but humans seem very relieved after she waves her magical stamp around.

If you need a mobile or online notary in Washington, you should probably call her. I enjoy expensive treats and electricity, so thank you in advance for supporting my lifestyle. 😼
