The descendants of Samuel Jenny Haskin reunion will be held Sunday, June 29th with a potluck picnic at noon at the Historic Mars Campground. For many years, Samuel Haskin's parents have been a mystery, and everyone who has been researching the family history has encountered a brick wall. Now, a DNA test has shattered that brick wall and revealed Samuel's parents, grandparents, and opened up the Haskin line back to Henry William Hoskins born 1591 in Cork, Ireland. All this information (and more) has been compiled into a booklet by D. R. Haskin and will be given to this year's Haskin Reunion attendees.

We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, and we wish you the very best for the New Year!

Well, the bridge is gone. In 1947, my Dad took a photo of my Mom sitting on the railing of that bridge. The creek was only a few feet below her. Fast forward nearly 80 years to today and the creek is 25 feet below the road! Soon a new bridge will be built. But imagine all the history that old bridge witnessed - and oh, the memories for all of us here at Mars!

Happy 202nd Birthday Samuel Haskin! Born May 19th 1820 in New York to Harace and Sarah Haskin. Samuel came to Nebraska in 1873 and filed claim to his homestead in the Verdigris Creek valley. A town named Mars was formed as more settlers arrived. While Mars is now a ghost town, Samuel Haskin's homestead remains in the Haskin name.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year!
