In 1873 Samuel Haskin led a group of settlers from Sauk County Wisconsin to the Verdigris Creek Valley of northeast Nebraska. Through many trials and hardships Samuel and his friends carved a life for themselves (and their descendants) in the rugged hills and valleys of northern Antelope County and southern Knox County.
Samuel Haskin was born May 19, 1820 in New York to Aris and Sarah Haskin. Today we remember this old pioneer on his 206th birthday. "Through joys and pains, Samuel wove a future for his family. With courage and perseverance, he paved the way for settlement in a harsh and unforgiving land. Through loss and sorrow he created a solid foundation of lasting hope.
