Safety Tip: Did you know under Illinois State law if you are involved in a minor traffic crash on the roadway, and your car is still driveable, you are required to move it out of the roadway if possible? By doing this you will likely prevent secondary traffic crashes from occurring because you will have cleared the roadway quicker. The longer the roadway is blocked by a traffic crash, the higher the chance of a secondary crash occurring with other cars who are trying to either stop behind or drive around the first car crash. If you are concerned about your insurance company not wanting you to leave the crash site before the police arrive, then take some pictures with your camera or cell phone, then move your vehicle to the shoulder of the road or to a safe place near the crash site to clear the roadway..... but do not leave the area before speaking with the police about the crash.
