Special Weather Statement issued March 25 at 8:42AM EDT by NWS Pittsburgh PA
Description

A combination of dry and windy conditions this afternoon will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread along and south of I-80. Minimum relative humidity values will range from 20 to 30 percent accompanied by wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, ci******es, or matches. Hold on to your cigarette butts! If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website at http://dcnr.pa.gov/Communities/Wildfire.

It was an honor to be recognized as the “Municipality of the Year” by the Greene County Conservation District for our participation in the Dirt, Gravel & Low Volume Road Maintenance Program. This program provides grant funding to local entities to eliminate stream pollution caused by runoff and sediment from dirt and gravel on low volume roads. Over the last several years we have utilized the funding for three much needed projects: to raise the elevation of Hickory Lane where annual flooding of the roadway occurred due to the road surface being below the level of the stream; improved and controlled the shoulder drainage along a portion of Pisgah Ridge Road where high water routinely flooded the roadway; and finally, a streambank stabilization project in several areas along Pettit Road where the creek was beginning to encroach and undermine the roadway. We are grateful for the opportunity this grant program provides, making funding available to make much-needed repairs to our township roadways, and we appreciate the assistance and guidance of the Greene County Conservation District Board and employees.

Pictured accepting the “Municipality of the Year Award” at the Greene County Conservation District’s annual recognition banquet are Washington Township Supervisors Troy Smith, Walt Stout and Charlie Hickman, along with Lindsay Koslowski and Lisa Snider of the Conservation District.
