Jim Walters is officially open โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

Today, the City of Runaway Bay celebrated the opening of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge, restoring this important connection for our community and honoring those who have served our nation.

Local veterans had the honor of cutting the ribbon, officially dedicating this bridge to the veterans of Runaway Bay - past, present, and future. Their service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country will forever be remembered as part of this landmark.

As our nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of Americaโ€™s founding, this dedication serves as a reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured and protected by generations of brave men and women who answered the call to serve.

This project would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of so many. We extend our sincere thanks to Wise County Commissioner Colby Shawn, the Greater Runaway Bay Alliance (GRBA) for assisting with todayโ€™s ceremony, our Mayor and City Council, the engineers and professionals who helped bring this project from vision to reality, the crews who worked tirelessly to complete the bridge, and the many residents who supported this effort along the way.

What began as a washout has become something much greater: a symbol of resilience, partnership, and gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible.

Welcome to Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Dedicated in 2026 in honor of the men and women who have defended our freedoms. Remembering those who served and celebrating 250 years of the American spirit. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

Today is the day!

๐Ÿšง๐ŸŽ€ Jim Walters is officially reopening!

In May 2025, a section of Jim Walters Road was washed out, leaving uncertainty about itโ€™s future. After months of coordination and hard work between the City of Runaway Bay, Wise County, and numerous partners, the bridge is complete and Jim Walters is ready to reopen.

Join us for a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony:

๐Ÿ“… Friday, June 12
โฐ 6:00 PM

We would like to thank the Greater Runaway Bay Alliance (GRBA) for assisting with the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Wise County Commissioner Colby Shawn for his assistance and support throughout this process.

The opening of this bridge is just the beginning. Mayor Herman White has announced his intent to dedicate the bridge as the Runaway Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge in honor of the men and women who have served our nation.

A future dedication ceremony and plaque unveiling are planned to recognize and honor the veterans of Runaway Bay - past, present, and future.

As this new bridge connects our community, it will also stand as a lasting tribute to the service, sacrifice, and commitment of those who have defended our freedoms.

Come help us celebrate the reopening of Jim Walters!

We understand residents may have questions about the recent TTHM water quality notice.

To help provide additional context, weโ€™ve put together an overview of what the notice means, what recent testing shows, and the steps the City has taken to improve water quality.

Recent testing results continue to show improvement, and no alternative water source is required.

We understand residents may have questions about the recent water quality report distributed to Runaway Bay water customers. At the April 15, 2026 City Council meeting, Public Works Director Ryan Halligan and Public Works Consultant Roddy Boston provided a detailed update regarding the Cityโ€™s water...

The Locational Running Annual Average (LRAA) is the average from the previous 4 quarters of results for any single testing location. This location is located on Shady Oaks Dr. An above average result from an earlier quarter in the reporting period has inflated the average to exceed the limits allowed by the EPA by 1/1000th of a mg/L.
The most current quarter's results measured in at .069 mg/L, which is well below the established EPA limits.
