On Presidents Day, we're reminded that the office of the presidency was never meant to serve one person’s ego or interests. It was created to serve the people, uphold the Constitution, and carry the weight of responsibility that comes with leading our democracy.

Throughout our history, the presidency has mattered most in moments of uncertainty, when leadership required restraint, integrity, and a commitment to the common good. Today, more than ever, we need a president who respects democratic norms, tells the truth, and understands the importance of upholding public trust. Presidents Day isn’t just about the past. It’s about the standards we demand for the future.

Our condolences go out to the entire Sweet family. Al’s service to our community will not be forgotten.

Our condolences go out to the entire Sweet family. Al’s service to our community will not be forgotten.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Past Chief Al Sweet. Chief Sweet served as Chief of the Rush Fire District, was a past President of the Monroe County Chiefs’ Association, a Past Deputy Fire Coordinator, and a longtime judge for many local parades. His dedication and service to the fire service and the communities he supported will be long remembered.

He was a mentor to many members in the Rush Fire Department.

His leadership, experiences, and stories of years past in Rush will be cherished and remembered by us all! God speed Brother Al!
