RCVA, Phoenix House

RCVA, Phoenix House RCVA works to offer shelter and support services to victims of domestic violence, & education.

RCVA Mission Statement:

Rush County Victims Assistance works to offer a safe shelter and support services to victims of domestic violence and abuse and to educate the Rush County community regarding domestic violence and its prevention. Volunteer Purpose:

To support the Phoenix House, staff and other volunteers in enabling the victims of domestic violence to get free and stay free. This is done

by listening, empathizing, educating and providing numerous resources to victims and their families while giving them a safe place from which to start their journey. Your support helps clients to stand up straight and with conviction break the chains that hold them. Your tremendous patiece and encouragement will assist them in taking the steps they must take to achieve freedom. RCVA Philosophy:

Affirming that no one deserves to be abused--physically, sexually, verbally or psychologically--RCVA works toward its mission of services to victims of domestic abuse through counseling, legal and social service referrals, court support, education, and operation of an emergency shelter, the Phoenix House. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, creed, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, marital status, affection preference, or different abilities. Realizing that domestic abuse is cyclic, we seek to help our clients break free and achieve self-sufficiency. Since such patterns of abuse affect other family members besides the primary victims, we extend assistance to other family members. Education and outreach efforts include participation in community events, distribution of literature, and publication of a newsletter and presentation of programs for community and sevice organizations. We work with law enforcement, the courts, social service agencies, schools and community organizations. Our services are provided by both paid professionals and trained volunteers. Committed community members help to maintain Phoenix House and support day-to-day operations. We are committed to excellence in our services to clients and the community at large.

Tonight at our board meeting we hung a memorial for Penny Busald. She was special to us as a board member, president and friend. She led us with kindness and compassion and was grateful for each of us.

We enjoyed walking in the Rush Fest parade today. We saw a lot of smiling faces and happy kids.

We are grateful for the Princess Theatre Car, Truck, Jeep and Bike Show, Tim and Lori McCord, and all who paid their vehicle registration fees, for the generous donation to RCVA today. It was an amazing day to enjoy cars. I have to say, my (Christy) favorites were the Mustangs. Thank you for allowing us to share in this special fundraiser.
