This week, we proudly recognize the voices behind the badge during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Our dispatchers are the calm in the chaos — the steady voice on the other end of the line when seconds matter most. They are the first to respond, guiding deputies, first responders, and our community through emergencies with professionalism, compassion, and strength.

At the Sheriff’s Office, we are grateful every day for the dedication and resilience our telecommunicators show. Their work often goes unseen, but it never goes unappreciated.

Thank you for your long hours, your sacrifices, and your commitment to keeping our community safe.

Join us in honoring our dispatchers this week — they truly are the lifeline of public safety. 📞💙

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is saddened by the passing of Constable Eddie Lee.

Constable Lee dedicated over 50 years of his life to law enforcement, serving his community with unwavering commitment, integrity, and heart. He was more than a public servant—he was a trusted colleague and a true friend. Someone we could always count on.

His legacy of service will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.

On April 6, 2026, Sheriff Brent Dickson was made aware of a Cherokee County jailer who was suspected of falsifying his timesheet. Sheriff Dickson initiated an internal affairs investigation into the matter, identifying the employee as Jonathan Mendez, 28, of Jacksonville.

During the course of the investigation, detectives developed evidence indicating that Mendez had falsified his Cherokee County timesheet for personal financial gain.

On April 9, 2026, warrants were issued by Judge Chris Day for the charge of tampering with government records, a state jail felony. Mendez was subsequently arrested and booked into the Cherokee County Jail the same day. His bond was set at $10,000.

Mendez posted bond and was released from custody on April 10, 2026.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
