5 years ago today we voted to end prohibition in Russell county. This has brought much needed revenue to our local government's and community, that was going to our neighboring countries. With Tourism being our biggest industry, it made no sense to remain in prohibition. More importantly, the 21st amendment of the constitution of the United States (freedom of choice) was not recognized by our county. With progressive leadership and forward thinking, we will see that what we did on Jan 19th 2016 will make a huge impact on our community.

GO VOTE! Tomorrow is a very important election for the future of Russell Co. All the local races are of importance, but the County Judge Executive, Magistrates, Mayors and city council races are critical in the direction our community takes in the next 4 years and beyond. We would ask that you vote for the candidates that will be willing to move our county forward, be progressive and be willing to leave their personal beliefs at the door to make decisions that are in the best interest of all the people.
The only voice most of us have in the way things are done is to VOTE. It's our right and privilege as an American.
PLEASE GO VOTE!

The May 22nd Primary is right around the corner. This is a very important election for the future of Russell County. Your vote is also very important and is your way of being heard.

This election will narrow the candidates down to one Democrat and one Republican for each position on the ballot. This coming November the general election will determine the ultimate winners for each position.

We need to continue to move Russell County forward including attracting new businesses, attracting more tourists to beautiful Lake Cumberland, continuing the work ready community initiative and dealing with the drug problem head on, to name a few goals.

We encourage you to think carefully when making your decision on who to vote for in this very important Primary election. Ask your candidates their thoughts on growth in Russell County. Be informed of their intentions before you cast your ballot.

While Revive Russell is not endorsing any particular candidate, we believe that progress in Russell County needs to continue at a steady pace. Evaluate your choices. Ask a lot of questions. Keep pushing for progress. Most importantly, go VOTE on May 22nd. The polls are open from 6:00am to 6:00pm.

With the primary elections just a few weeks away and being that some very important county offices will be decided during the primary. We feel it's very important that voters ask the right questions to these candidates as they ask for your vote. These are the people that will make the decisions that will effect our counties future for the next four years and beyond. Especially the Magistrates.
We have compiled a list of a few questions we feel are important to ask. Feel free to comment any question you feel is important to ask these candidates that will impact our communities future.

1) Why are you running for office & what qualities or expertise/ experience to you bring?
2) What are your top priorities to help move our county in the right direction?
3) Will you vote against what your constituents wanted because of your personal beliefs or will you abstain your vote, or will you voice your opinion on the issue, yet vote with the majority of what the constituents wanted?
4) Are you pro growth or do you like the town the way it is?
5) Are you willing to work with people of different ideologies than yours and across party lines?

Being that 2018 is an election year for ALL the offices in Russell Co.that make the decisions that effect our cities and county. We felt that if people understood what the job description of each these offices were, they could make a more educated decision when they went to the polls. We are starting at the top. The county Judge Executive. What is a Judge Executive?

The term “judge-executive” is one of the more confusing in public service. In spite of being called "judge", after a reorganization passed in 1975 in Kentucky, judge-executives no longer have any judicial responsibilities. In other states, this position is most often known as the “county executive.”

The judge-executive is the elected CEO of the county. As such, he or she is responsible for running the executive branch of the county, including overseeing day-to-day operations and managing its departments and personnel. The judge-executive also has a vote as a member of the Fiscal Court—the county’s legislative arm. Our County Fiscal Court has six members—the judge-executive and five elected magistrates. They are responsible for handling the budget and passing ordinances. Many of the judge-executive's powers require the Fiscal Court’s approval (through a majority vote). The County Judge Executive, along with the approval of the fiscal court, also appoints members to several county boards that play a vital role in the county's economic development, tourism, health and well being of it's citizens.

Ideally, the judge-executive job has another critical component—serving as the county’s ambassador to the rest of the world. In this role, he or she establishes and maintains relationships with other agencies and governments. The judge-executive can and should partner with other elected officials and community leaders to influence state and federal legislation and budget decisions that affect the county. These relationships are crucial, given that available state and federal funds far exceed what counties have to spend.
