RCH was honored to host college students onsite on June 11th participating in the Rural Health Scholars (RHS) program through AHEC and WKU.
The students began the morning shadowing within their respective areas, followed by a lunch-and-learn session with administration, and then continued with afternoon shadowing experiences. RCH is proud to be part of the future investment of these students & the care they will provide in our rural areas!
βEach summer, AHEC has a selective, intense, fourβweek program for pre-health professions students called Rural Health Scholars (RHS). (RHS) immerses students in rural Kentucky healthcare through handsβon experiences designed to deepen their understanding of the challenges, strengths, and community resources that shape care for rural populations. Participants complete trainings, prepare for the professional school application process, dive deep into contemporary issues in health and meet with a wide array of community members to learn about serving a complex Rural population. The goal is to encourage participates to ultimately practice in a rural community and to ensure they are better prepared to serve a rural population wherever they end up.β
