We’re in for yet another round of high winds which means extremely high fire danger. We’re asking any of our area farmers that have tillage equipment and water trailers to have them on standby. They are more of an asset than one might realize

🔥🔥🔥We can't stress this enough, tomorrow, we are in a red flag warning. What does this mean? This means that if a fire were to occur, it could be catastrophic and grow rapidly. If you have recently had a controlled burn, today is the day to ensure it is out. Do not conduct any open burning tomorrow.🔥🔥🔥

Make your plans today to prepare for the extreme danger tomorrow!

Whether it be full time or volunteer, all departments are one big family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wichita Fire Department. We’ve got the watch from here!!

The Wichita Fire Department and the City of Wichita are extremely saddened to announce that at approximately 3:22 PM while operating at a mutual aid fire in Haysville, one of Wichita’s bravest was injured in the line of duty, and later succumbed to their injury.

The Wichita Fire Department is working to ensure family members are all appropriately notified. We will not release the name of this firefighter until then. We respectfully ask the same of anyone that may know the firefighter.

This is a loss that deeply weighs heavily on all of us. All of the dedicated individuals who serve our fire department do so knowing the immense risk they are undertaking and do it with noble, selfless regard. It does not make their sacrifice any less immense. Nor the sacrifice of their loved ones and family any easier.

Please keep this firefighters family and crew in your prayers. We will update the community on any additional information as it becomes available.

RGFD hosted Troop 118 Tiger Cubs last night for fire safety. We covered an array of topics. First and foremost, we talked about the “Stop, Drop and Roll” method. We then spoke about the different trucks that respond to the calls we have, as they all have a different purpose. They then learned when to dial 911 services as well as what to do in the event they are trapped inside of a house fire. Lastly, we gave them homework to create a fire escape in their own homes to present at their next meeting.

Plainville Fire Department Assistant Chief Ray Benedick # 503 passed away last night. Please pray for his family and the Fire Dept as we all deal with this loss.

Did you know that while our main priority is in the county, we also lend mutual aid to the City of Russell Fire Department as well as our other departments within the county. Tonight we trained on making hydrant and hose advancement with our newer members! When time is critical, it becomes very important to know the first 5 minutes on scene!

From all of us at Russell-Grant Fire Department, we want to wish you all a very joyous holiday season! As we all enjoy the holidays, just some friendly “reminders” for all:

1. Water live trees regularly to avoid fire danger. Nothing ignites the Christmas spirit like a raging Christmas tree fire that destroys your MeeMaw’s handcrafted holiday sweaters that smell like candy canes and mothballs.
2. Properly secure your tree. Your cat dislikes you and he will do everything he can to take down your tree and the last ounce of joy you were clinging onto in 2021.
3. Be careful with candles. It may have a magical scent name like Snowy Meadow Reindeer Paw, but it won’t be magical when your candle starts your curtains on fire and spreads to your Velvet Elvis collection.
4. Be cautious when hanging decorations from a ladder. Our firefighters do not resemble the cast of Chicago Fire. If you fall, a crew of Homer Simpson-esque EMTs and paramedics will be coming to your aid.
5. Don’t overload extension cords or power strips. Your light display may make Clark Griswold proud, but our fire investigators are as exhilarating as Todd and Margo. You don’t want to find out.
