Be aware of developing weather today!

The City of Russell Fire Department will be conducting a controlled burn at our training facility tomorrow, 5/30/2026, at 9:00 A.M.

There may be heavy smoke at times during the burn. This burn will be located southeast of town, near the wastewater facility.

Help us give a shout out to Russell County Kansas Sheriff's Office and Russell, Kansas Police Department! Its National LEO Week! Stay weather aware today for the potential of severe storms. The weather to start the day should be cool and cloudy and this will keep the initial thunderstorm threat down. By this evening, warmer air and increasing moisture will combine with a storm system that will lead to thunderstorm development. Storms are capable of producing hail larger than 2 inches, damaging winds, and tornadoes can't be ruled out.
