In a small town like Russell, PA, we take care of each other.

When someone’s house is on fire, when a family is facing their worst day, when a medical emergency happens, or when someone needs a helping hand — we don’t look the other way. We show up.

Summer is winding down and soon students, teachers and staff will be returning back to school 🍎📚

Here’s a reminder from your Station 54 crew as that first bell approaches and families begin the first day of school here in Warren County.

Station 54 RVFD Public Safety Message

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is affecting air quality across northwestern Pennsylvania. While conditions may vary throughout the day, wildfire smoke can pose health risks for everyone, especially children, older adults, and those with heart or lung conditions.

Station 54 RVFD encourages everyone to take the following precautions while smoke remains in our area:

* Limit outdoor activities when smoke levels are elevated.
* Keep windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering your home.
* Use air conditioning on the recirculate setting or an air purifier if available.
* Avoid strenuous outdoor activities such as exercising, mowing the lawn, or other heavy work outdoors.
* If you need to spend time outside, consider wearing a properly fitted N95 mask to help filter fine smoke particles.
* Stay hydrated and watch for symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, headaches, or irritation of the eyes and throat.
* Check on family members, neighbors, and others who may be more sensitive to poor air quality.
* Keep pets indoors whenever possible and ensure they have access to fresh water.

Please continue to monitor local air quality reports before spending extended time outdoors. If air quality reaches unhealthy levels, the safest choice is to remain indoors until conditions improve.

Your safety is our priority. Stay informed, take the necessary precautions, and help us look out for one another during this period of reduced air quality.

🌡️ Extreme Heat Safety Reminder from Station 54 RVFD 🚒

With dangerously hot temperatures in our area, Station 54 RVFD reminds everyone to take extra precautions to stay safe.

☀️ Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid excessive alcohol and sugary drinks.

🏠 Stay Cool: Spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. If you don’t have air conditioning, visit a cooling center, library, or other public building.

👕 Dress Smart: Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if you’re outdoors.

⏰ Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid strenuous work or exercise during the hottest part of the day (typically 10 AM–4 PM). Take frequent breaks in the shade.

🚗 Never Leave Children or Pets in Vehicles: Temperatures inside a parked car can become deadly within minutes—even with the windows cracked.

👵 Check on Neighbors: Older adults, young children, and those with chronic medical conditions are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. A quick phone call or visit could save a life.

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heat Illness:
• Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, cool clammy skin.
• Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency): High body temperature, confusion, loss of consciousness, hot dry skin, or seizures. Call 911 immediately.
