SCAM ALERT PLEASE READ AND SHARE
The Logan County Detention Center wants to make the public aware of a scam that is currently targeting family members and loved ones of incarcerated individuals.
We have received reports that unknown individuals and an individual that goes by Lt. Brown are contacting people by phone and falsely claiming to work for the detention center, the court system, or law enforcement. These callers are telling victims that they can secure the release of an incarcerated individual if a payment is made immediately over the telephone.
THIS IS A SCAM.
To be absolutely clear:
The Logan County Detention Center will NEVER request bond payments over the telephone.
We will NEVER ask for payment through Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, prepaid debit cards, or any electronic payment method over the phone.
We will NEVER contact family members demanding immediate payment for someone’s release.
We will NEVER threaten, pressure, or intimidate anyone into making a payment.
The ONLY legitimate ways to post a bond are:
In person at the detention center
At the Logan County Justice Center during normal business hour
If you receive a suspicious phone call:
• Do not provide personal information
• Do not provide banking or debit/credit card information
• Do not send money electronically
• Hang up immediately
• Contact the detention center directly to verify any information
Scammers often use fear, urgency, and emotional pressure to trick people into acting quickly. They may know the name of an incarcerated person or use spoofed phone numbers to make the call appear legitimate. Just because a caller sounds official or has information about an inmate does not mean the call is real.
We encourage everyone to share this post so our community can stay informed and help protect others from becoming victims of fraud.
If you believe you have received one of these scam calls or may have been victimized, please report it to local law enforcement immediately.
The safety and trust of our community are extremely important to us, and we appreciate your help in spreading awareness.
