Passport Immersion: Day 6: Today students took a field trip to Little Rock where they got to practice discussing animals and their habitats and traits while at the zoo. We spent lunch downtown and even got to ride the trolly and learned about the history of the city.

Another win for the ESL Department! Please, welcome back, Mrs. Mirna Mata. Mirna served as the ESL Secretary for years, but is now returning in a different role as the Hispanic Community Liaison. Her service to the families we serve is top notch! ❤️

My name is Mirna Mata. I am a wife and mother of three incredible children. I am excited to work with the RSD ESL Department as the Hispanic Liaison. I am passionate about supporting diverse families and helping connect students, families, and schools. We are so excited to announce that Mrs. Carolyn Cross is transferring to a position in our ESL Department! She will be our Secondary ESL Specialist. She is no stranger to ESL, and we look forward to her expertise and leadership while she services and guides our Language Academy Program! ❤️

Carolyn states:

Hello! My name is Carolyn Cross, and I am excited for this opportunity to be an ESL Specialist. I have been employed with the Russellville School District for 20 years teaching Language Arts and ESL classes at the middle school. I am a graduate of Arkansas Tech University with a master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I am looking forward to working with secondary ESL students this year!

Hello, my name is Megan Torres. I’m a wife and mother to a special-needs child. I have 10 years of experience in education and childcare, with the last five years serving in the public school system. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment where children can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. In my free time, I enjoy singing, playing the piano, and spending quality time with my family. Passport Immersion Day 5:

Tuesday 6/9 - America, the beautiful! We took a trip to Petit Jean State Park where students learned about the different species of birds in the area, hiked, and learned about the history of the park. Part of learning a new place is getting to know what’s around you! We are so thankful to share our beautiful state with newcomers and ESL students.

Passport Immersion, Day 3:

Monday 6/8 - Students explored the natural world learning vocabulary about plants and animals. Mrs. Ditto taught students about gardening and ways to preserve food. We learned how to properly repot a plant and built build houses.
