SATURDAY NIGHT UPDATE: A MAJOR Winter Storm - quite possibly Bowling Green's biggest in years - is taking shape for Sunday night into Monday. We still expect rain to develop across South-Central KY with a transition to freezing rain/sleet for areas north of the Western KY Parkway during the early afternoon. That transtion will work SE across the rest of the area during the evening.

*POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT ICING* is there for ALL of South-Central KY Sun evening/night. Ice amounts could reach into the 1/2"-1" range tomorrow night. Glazing that heavy would greatly weigh down trees and power lines, potentially resulting in outages. For many, this could be the most amount of icing seen since the Ice Storm of 2009. A transition to sleet and then snow is expected early Monday morning before the event ends Monday afternoon. Significant snow/sleet accumulation is likely on top of any icing we receive. Much uncertainty remains on snow totals, as those will be highly dependent on when the coldest of air arrives late tomorrow night along with how much moisture is around when it does.

In this event, YOU WILL WANT TO HOPE FOR A QUICK TRANSITION FROM FREEZING RAIN TO EITHER SLEET OR SNOW!! Freezing rain is what glazes outdoor objects and creates the most dangerous conditions. Sleet falls as small ice pellets, and while it can cause hazardous travel in its own right, sleet does not collect on power lines like freezing rain does. Something to keep in mind as we get into tomorrow night.

I STRONGLY URGE EVERYONE TO FINISH PRE-STORM PREPARATIONS BY SUNDAY EVENING! Conditions will rapidly deteriorate tomorrow night when temperatures drop into the 20s and the wintry mix moves in.

Keep checking with Chris, Stephanie, and myself through the rest of the weekend as we track what is shaping up to be a very big, very impactful Winter Storm!

News Release
Date: 10/26/2013
Time: 10:00—14:00
Location: Logan and Simpson Counties { National Level Event}
Assisting Agencies: D.E.A- Logan S.O.-Russellville P.D.-Simpson S.O.-Franklin P.D.

On Saturday October 26th from 10 till 2pm, the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force in conjunction with the DEA, and local law enforcement agencies in Logan and Simpson counties participated in the DEA initiative called National Take Back Day. Citizens were encouraged thru local media to take advantage of the opportunity and safely dispose of their old out of date, or unwanted prescription medications.
“The program was a great success.” According to Detective Giles Taylor {Agent} with SCKDTF, and Agent in charge of the event in Logan, and Simpson counties.
Detective Taylor collected the material at the close of the four hour event. It was then weighed, sorted, and ultimately destroyed. In all the material weighed an amazing 62.4 pounds.
“That’s 62 pounds of potentially deadly prescription pills, and bio-hazardous waste that may have otherwise ended up being sold on the streets, experimented with in our schools, or accidentally ingested by a child or family pet.”
Detective Taylor concluded by saying “On behalf of the Drug Task Force I would like to thank all the citizens who came out on a chilly Saturday to participate, and I would like to remind everyone about the permanent medication collection boxes located at the Simpson Co. Sheriff’s Department, Franklin Police Department, Logan Co. Sheriff’s Department, Russellville Police Department, and the Elkton Police Department. These boxes are open to the public, and accessible year round.
And as always, thank you for your continuing support.”

We realize the graphic, and sometimes gruesome nature of the photos posted on our site are somewhat disturbing and possible offensive to some viewers.
However we make no apologies.....
This is the reality of a life of addiction, and drug use, if seeing the results of experimenting with these dangerous substances keeps just one young person....just one single child.... from a life of drug use then we have done our job and it was worth it.....
thank you for your continuing support...

Sincerely...
Giles Taylor
Agent SCKDTF.

Jere Hopson, Operations Director of the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Forcewas the featured speaker at the Rotary meeting yesterday in Simpson County Kentucky.
Speaking to a crowd of approximately 20 Rotarians Director Hopson's topic of discussion was the changing nature of drug trends in south central Kentucky.
Hopson outlined some of the various ways he as Director, and the 5 agents assigned to the task force are working to fight the increasing drug problem while also raising community awareness to the dangers associated with drugs and the drug culture itself.
Director Hopson placed special emphasis on prescription drug abuse and its impact on the national, state and local levels. Statics show a meteoric rise in Rx abuse over the last decade resulting in untold numbers of deaths from overdose across the nation.
Drugs such as M**h, Co***ne, He**in, and Ma*****na are very prevalent, and pose a continuing problem in every community, city, and town in the area.
Now South Central Kentucky, and the nation as a whole is facing a prescription drug problem that has reached epidemic proportions.
Director Hopson commended the professional and business leaders of the Rotary Club for their service, and support to the continuing development of their communities.
In closing Hopson re-affirmed the unwavering commitment of himself, and the detectives of the South Central Drug Task Force to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and actively investigate, purse, and prosecute those who break the law.
