This week marks National Police Week, a time set aside to honor the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting not only our community, but communities across this nation. It is a week of remembrance, gratitude, and reflection as we recognize the sacrifices made by those who have worn the badge with pride and commitment.

As part of this week, we invite everyone to join us Tuesday, May 12 at 10:00 AM at the Hughes Community Center for the Police Memorial Service. This service is a time to remember those we have lost, honor those who have served, and stand alongside the families, friends, and loved ones who continue to support them.

We also want to extend a sincere thank you to the family and friends of our officers, both past and present, for the encouragement, strength, and support you provide each and every day. To those who have served, those currently serving, and those who continue to answer the call to serve their community — thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.

As part of Child Abuse Awareness Month, yesterday, the Russellville Police Department teamed up with several agencies to conduct a s*x offender compliance check within the city limits of Russellville.

These checks are an important part of keeping our community safe. Officers verified that each offender’s address, place of employment, vehicles they have access to, online accounts or social media profiles, and other required information were current and accurate. This helps ensure compliance with registry requirements and accountability within our community.

During the check, 22 offenders were found to be out of compliance and were arrested.

This was truly a team effort, and we want to give a big thank you to Probation and Parole, the 5th Judicial Drug Task Force, Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, Pope County Jail, and Pope County Dispatch for their support and hard work.

We also want to extend a special thank you to Saint Mary's Regional Health System for generously providing food to keep the team going throughout the day.

We appreciate everyone who played a role in helping protect our community and support this important work.

Operation Birthday is still going.

While we did provide presents for January and February, we were unable to contact parents and get permission to post pictures. March and April birthdays were for students at the Jr. High.

Through assistance from Toys for Tots and other individuals, we will keep this going as long as we can!!!

Today, we laid our brother, Assistant Chief Steve Perry, to rest.

What we witnessed today was truly special. The outpouring of support, the full room, and the presence of so many friends, family members, and public safety professionals spoke volumes about the kind of man Steve was. He didn’t just wear the uniform, he made a lasting difference in people’s lives. Today showed just how far that impact reached.

To the Perry family, thank you for allowing us to stand beside you, honor him, and celebrate a life that meant so much to all of us. We will carry his legacy forward.

To everyone who attended, sent prayers, or reached out, thank you. Your support was seen and deeply appreciated.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the agencies and partners who stepped up so we could take care of our own. Whether assisting with the service or covering stations and districts, you ensured our community remained protected while our firefighters and officers stood together to honor Chief Perry. A special thank you to the the departments who made it possible for so many to attend and pay their respects. That is the fire service at its core. That is family.

We also want to recognize and thank New Life Church and Russellville Family Funeral for providing the space and for the care, professionalism, and support shown throughout the service.

We are especially grateful to Fred Teague and Jeff Piker for leading the service with such thoughtfulness and respect in honoring Chief Perry.

To the many other departments and agencies who stood with us, your presence meant more than words can express. If anyone was unintentionally missed, please know your support did not go unnoticed.

Today was difficult, but it also served as a reminder of the strength of this profession, the bond we share, and the impact one person can have on so many.

Rest easy, Chief. We’ve got it from here.

Well, it's a wrap.

As the year comes to an end, we are proud to say we had a successful Shop with a Cop. Thank you to the Officers that volunteered their time to make today possible for the children that needed it most, and the on duty officers that were able to show up.

Special thanks to Arkansas Tech University Department of Public Safety, the Russellville School District, and Walmart - specifically employees Maygan Nicholas and Katie Casey.

Maygan hit the ground running, as always, and helped to ensure today went exactly how it should have. Katie was a fantastic cashier for us.
