Campbell County Public Safety Advisory - Please do not burn!

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for increased fire danger today in Campbell County and other areas of Central Virginia.

The combination of lower relative humidity values, dry conditions, and winds gusting to 20-30 mph will result in an increased risk for the rapid spread of wildfires this week.

Please use extreme caution if handling any potential ignition source, including machinery, ci******es, and matches.

Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.

Some fire prevention tips:

Business and home owners can prevent fire by carefully choosing the right landscape covering (rock and other non-combustible materials).

Avoid mulch extending up to the foundation of the building.

Using several feet of rock to make a barrier between mulch beds and buildings is good practice.

Please do your part to minimize the risk of wildfires in our County!

Be safe, Campbell!
