Ruston Police Department Investigates Shooting; Multiple Arrests Made
On June 17, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., officers with the Ruston Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the area of the 2300 block of West Alabama Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, officers were advised that a male with a gunshot wound had arrived at Northern Louisiana Medical Center seeking treatment for injuries sustained during the incident. Ruston Police Department investigators responded and assumed the investigation.
Investigators obtained surveillance footage from the area and were able to observe the shooting as it occurred. The video revealed that two individuals exchanged gunfire while standing among a group of people. Investigators were also able to obtain descriptions of vehicles involved in the incident.
Through further investigation, detectives positively identified one of the vehicles involved and obtained its license plate information. At approximately midnight, investigators, assisted by Ruston Patrol Officers, the Grambling Police Department, and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office, responded to a residence associated with the vehicle. Officers determined that several occupants of the vehicle resided at the location; however, the suspected shooter was not present. Investigators were able to confirm that no additional individuals were injured during the incident.
As the investigation continued, detectives identified one of the shooters as a 16-year-old juvenile from Farmerville, Louisiana.
On June 18, 2026, with assistance from the Lincoln Parish Sheriffs Office, Union Parish Sheriff's Office , and Farmerville Police Department, investigators executed search warrants at two separate residences in Farmerville. Evidence was recovered from both locations; however, neither suspect was located.
Later that afternoon, investigators developed information indicating that both suspects might be at another residence in Farmerville. After confirming their location, officers took the 16-year-old shooting suspect and another occupant of the involved vehicle into custody. A search warrant was subsequently obtained and executed at the residence. During the search, officers recovered a stolen rifle and various types of ammunition.
Several individuals believed to be involved in the incident were detained and transported to the Union Parish Sheriff's Office for questioning. Following interviews and further investigation, multiple arrests were made.

Seventeen-year-old Jaden Shelbon of Farmerville was charged through Union Parish with:

The other party involved in the shooting, 18-year-old Jaylin Huntley of Ruston, who sustained a gunshot wound, will be charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder upon his release from the hospital.
The Ruston Police Department would like to thank the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office, Grambling Police Department, Union Parish Sheriff's Office, and Farmerville Police Department for their assistance throughout this investigation. The cooperation and coordination among these agencies were instrumental in the successful identification and apprehension of those involved.
