Scam Alert for Local Businesses

We have been made aware of a scam targeting local businesses.
Scammers are calling businesses and claiming to be representatives from FedEx. They tell employees that a recent check for a shipment or delivery has “bounced” and tell employees they have to send payment through Bitcoin.

Please be aware: FedEx will not call and demand immediate payment using gift cards, wire transfers, or other unusual payment methods.

How to Protect Your Business:

Do not provide payment information over the phone to unsolicited callers.
Verify the claim independently by contacting FedEx using the number listed on your account statements or the official FedEx website.

Be cautious of high-pressure tactics or threats to suspend deliveries.Train employees who answer phones or handle invoices to recognize common scam tactics.Never share sensitive business information such as account numbers, banking details, or employee information with unknown callers.Report suspicious calls to local law enforcement.

Common Red Flags:

The caller demands immediate payment.
They insist on payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfer.
They threaten legal action or suspension of deliveries. The caller ID appears suspicious or does not match official FedEx contact information.

If you receive a call like this, hang up and verify the information through official channels before taking any action.
Please share this information with your employees and coworkers to help prevent others from becoming victims of this scam.
