πŸš’ Support Your Local Fire Department! πŸš’

Recently, we were invited to speak with a small group about how our fire department operates so our community could better understand the services we provide. After sharing some of the information below, our Board of Directors was approached by a community member who offered to help organize a fundraiser to support our new fire station and reduce the department's debt.

If you're curious about why we're building a new station and how your fire tax is used, keep reading. If you'd like to help, we hope you'll join us for our Concert Fundraiser on September 19 at the Old Rock School!

❓ Where Does Your Fire Department Funding Come From?

Each year, the fire department receives a fire tax that appears on your annual property tax bill. This tax is separate from county taxes and goes directly to the fire department.

Our current fire tax rate is 10.5 cents per $100 of assessed property value. For a home valued at $250,000, that's approximately $262 per year. These funds are overseen by our Board of Directors, who are responsible for ensuring the money is spent wisely and responsibly.

❓ What Does the Fire Tax Cover?

Your fire tax funds all of the services we provide, including:
β€’ Fire extinguishment
β€’ First responder medical services
β€’ Community outreach
β€’ Smoke detector installations
β€’ Public education
β€’ Fire Stations, Equipment, Fire Trucks, and Part-Time Personnel

We do not send bills for these servicesβ€”they're all covered by your fire tax.

❓ Why Do We Need a New Station?

Our current Station 1 was originally built in 1958 and has been expanded several times over the years. In addition, the department does not own the land the station sits onβ€”it is owned by the hospital.

The decision to build a new station came after extensive discussion and careful planning. This project represents the only debt currently held by Lovelady Fire Department. We continue to actively pursue grants and other funding opportunities to reduce that debt and help avoid increasing the fire tax rate.

πŸ’² Every dollar raised through this fundraiser will help strengthen the future of your fire department and the services we provide to our community. If you have any questions, feel free to message us!

Thank you for your continued support. We hope to see you on September 19 at the Old Rock School!

πŸš’πŸ”₯ 2026 Avery Bishop Future Firefighter Camp Update! πŸ”₯πŸš’

So far, 23 students have enrolled in our 2026 Future Firefighter Camp, and we are having an incredible week!

πŸ§‘β€πŸš’ Monday – Students learned valuable firefighting fundamentals and safety skills, along with receiving a full tour of Station 1 and an introduction to our apparatus and equipment.

πŸ’ͺ🏻 Tuesday – Campers participated in a challenging obstacle course that emphasized the importance of teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.

πŸš‘ Wednesday – It’s all things medical! Students will learn basic first aid, how to recognize and respond to choking emergencies, and Hands-Only CPR.

🚨 Thursday – Campers will learn a variety of rescue techniques used in the fire service and gain hands-on experience with rescue operations.

🌭 Friday – We’ll wrap up the week with a cookout for all participants and their families as we celebrate their accomplishments.

There’s still time to join the fun and experience what it’s like to be a firefighter! If you know a young person interested in firefighting, emergency services, teamwork, and helping others, we would love to have them.

What began as a smoke investigation ended with finding a structure fire. Units were dispatched to investigate for smoke in the area of Leger Rd today around 2 pm. While responding, heavy black smoke was noted and automatic aid was requested from other departments. On arrival, a vacant house was discovered to be involved along with a small area of woods next to the house. Quick work kept the fire from spreading further into the woods while also extinguishing the structure.
We thank all our mutual aid partners for responding:

Triple Community Fire Department
