I have an announcement to make, I’m RUNNING FOR OFFICE during the JUNE 4th PRIMARY in my Borough of Rutherford, NJ !

My name is on the ballot for a seat with the Democratic Committee of Bergen County. This committee represents & helps decide who the candidates will be that get to run on the Democratic line during each election. And, I want to be a part of that process. Choosing the best candidate is more important than ever in these days & times. And for the longest time, this group of committee members have run unopposed with a couple of higher ups controlling every aspect of this democratic process.

If you know me, you know that I CARE DEEPLY about justice & fairness, and although they tell you life isn’t fair sometimes, that should never stop you from doing whatever you can in this lifetime to stand up & help to be a part of the change that you want to see in this world. So that maybe, quite possibly, the dial can point towards a more fair process from your efforts in getting involved. And, having more than just 1 choice is always a good thing, right?

If you live in DISTRICT 8 (voting booth at the Kindergarten Center / Sylvan street), you will be able to have the opportunity to VOTE FOR ME. 🇺🇸

Can’t believe that it took this long, but the Antilynching Act is finally a law.

Yesterday, President Biden signed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act into law—finally designating lynching as a federal hate crime in the United States. For many Black folks, this historic moment comes with a lot of different emotions—I know it does for me. There’s the relief that a bill like this has finally passed. The frustration that this kind of legislation has taken so long. And the grief that never goes away for the countless Black lives we’ve lost to racial violence over the years.

In the Black community, the loss of Emmett Till remains so raw and terrifying that it still affects the way we act, think, and move through the world. I can still remember my mother sitting my brother down to tell him to be careful when he ventured into different neighborhoods across Chicago to meet his friends. These kinds of conversations are all too common in our communities—that fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time—and it’s finally time that we take steps to change that.

The reality is that antilynching legislation was first introduced over a century ago—and failed to pass over 200 times. Now, the Emmett Till Antilynching Act is a chance to reckon with our history, and move in a new direction—one that makes this country safer and more just for us all.
