The Town of Rutland is looking for volunteers to serve on the newly established Rutland Building Committee

If you're interested in helping shape the future of Rutland's public buildings and facilities, this is a great opportunity to make a lasting impact on our community. The five-member advisory committee, appointed by the Select Board, will help identify, evaluate, and prioritize building and facility needs while supporting the Town's long-term planning and investment goals.

Committee members will: Assess the condition and future needs of Town buildings and facilities Develop and maintain priorities for maintenance, renovations, expansions, and future building projects Engage with residents, Town departments, boards, and committees to gather input on community needs Recommend building project priorities based on community benefit, urgency, cost, safety, accessibility, sustainability, and long-term planning Submit annual recommendations for future capital building projects

This committee serves in an advisory role, providing thoughtful recommendations to help guide future investments in Rutland's facilities. Members do not oversee construction projects or manage Town operations.

Protect the Rutland Prison Camp Ruins
The Town of Rutland has learned that the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) plans to significantly alter the remaining historic structures at the Rutland Prison Camp, including removing much of the remaining prison cell walls and filling the root cellar. DCR's letter does not provide a timeline for when this work will begin.
The Rutland Prison Camp is an important piece of our community's history. Town officials and the Historical Commission are requesting that DCR pause this work and meet with local stakeholders to explore preservation-minded alternatives before irreversible changes are made.

It's a hot one out there

Unfortunately our Senior Center and Public Library are only open in the mornings on Fridays but the Rutland Community Pool is open all day!

If a pool day isn't an option, you could treat yourself to a refreshing cold brew at Coffeelands or Dunks. Or better yet, how about an ice cream from Rutland Market or Lilac Hedge?

Whatever you have on your schedule today keep these tips in mind.

Stay Hydrated -Drink water all day long. Don't wait until you feel thirsty.

Stay Inside - Keep to air-conditioned rooms if you have them. Close your blinds and curtains to block the sun. Use fans to move the air around.

If you have to be outside wear a hat and light, loose clothes. Put on sunscreen with high SPF. Take rest breaks in the shade.

Most importantly care For others. Check on older family members and neighbors. Make sure pets have fresh water and shade.

If you feel unwell or are showing signs of heat sickness like dizziness or throwing up - seek medical attention right away. Emergency services are here to help.
