An update on the sweet little squirrel...
Thank you to Monty's House Wildlife Rehabilitation and Wild on Blissville.
Even the tiniest among us need love, care, and friendship🧡🐿💜
It often takes a village, and this intake's journey to Monty's House is an embodiment of a caring village.
Rehabber, Cheri, with Wild on Blissville reached out last Wednesday evening about a little girl squirrel that was found alone and presenting herself looking for help to the staff at NewStory Center in Rutland. The kind staff brought the sweet squirrel to Cheri since she was working just a couple of buildings down from their facility. Cheri offered to care for the little squirrel overnight, but had no squirrels in rehab at that time, and I had a certain little dude, Gary, who had just opened his eyes who I knew would be happy to have a pal.
Thanks to amazing transporter, Avi, this squirrel girl secured a ride bright and early Thursday morning. She was on the small side and a bit skinny, weighing only 99 grams, however, in a few short days, with some good food and formula, lots of rest, and a new friend in Gary, she is tipping the scales today at 122 grams!!
And, little did this little one know, but she will soon be famous, as I taped an episode of Outdoor Secrets Unwrapped TV Show on Saturday, and she made a brief appearance during the second segment where I talk about what to do should you come upon orphaned wildlife, how to tell by species if a little is orphaned, and reunification strategies for situations where parents are nearby.
This little girl, named Laurie by the staff at NewStory, is better for the kindness of many folks, and I want to again thank Cheri for intaking and caring for her overnight, Avi for taking the time to transport her here, and the staff at NewStory for caring to reach out for help for her, and for the generous collective donation made for her care. Welcome to Monty's House, Laurie 🩶
