🚌 Back to School Safety Tips 🚌

Vermont kids head back to school next week! Here are a few reminders to help everyone start the year off safe:

1️⃣ Practice your route - walk or drive it once before the first day so kids know what to expect.
2️⃣ Arrive at the bus stop a few minutes early and wait a safe distance back from the road.
3️⃣ Backpacks should fit well and not be overloaded - heavy on one shoulder can cause strain.
4️⃣ Drivers: watch for kids at crosswalks and bus stops, and always stop for flashing bus lights.
5️⃣ Heading to school past a substation or utility pole? Keep a safe distance - they're not meant for climbing or playing near.

One of our favorite VELCO traditions is our end-of-summer intern reflection presentations. 💚

Each year, employees from across the company come together to hear from our interns as they share what they learned, the projects they contributed to, and how their experience helped shape their understanding of the energy industry.

These presentations are more than a recap of the summer- they're an opportunity for all of us to learn something new, gain fresh perspectives on our work, and celebrate the impact our interns have made. At the same time, they give students valuable real-world experience presenting to a large audience of colleagues, helping build confidence and communication skills they'll carry throughout their careers.

Thank you to our 2026 interns for an incredible summer. We can't wait to see where your journeys take you!

Ben and the team are currently performing critical transmission line refurbishment work to help maintain the reliability and safety of Vermont's electric grid. Thank you to the entire crew for your hard work and dedication each and every day!

Our employees recently visited the Highgate Converter and Essex STATCOM facilities as part of an all-employee tour designed to deepen our understanding of how VELCO keeps Vermont's grid running strong.

Beyond learning about functions outside our day-to-day roles, it was a great chance to connect with colleagues across the company. Grateful for teams who make our grid reliable every day!

Sustainability at VELCO isn't just about the grid - it's about the ground beneath it too! 🌱

At our Rutland headquarters, our pollinator garden and the wildflower meadows growing throughout our solar field are providing critical habitat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. 🦋

This is just one part of a broader effort: we've cultivated similar pollinator-friendly spaces at our New Haven and Barre facilities too, working to protect biodiversity across our footprint.

From the VELCO archives to your feed - it's time for another hashtag . ⚡📸
These photos capture the construction of the North Rutland–New York State 115 kV transmission line near Castleton, Vermont, including the setting of the first of more than 5,000 poles that became part of the St. Lawrence transmission power grid. This section was part of the 16-mile circuit connecting Whitehall, New York, to Rutland, Vermont - a project that helped strengthen the region's growing electric system.

It's incredible to look back at the people, equipment, and craftsmanship that helped build the grid we continue to operate and maintain today.
