Since 2020, the Village of Rutland has invested nearly $40,000 in storm sewer improvements, replacing decades of defective infrastructure. And, we’re not finished there!

Today, on Memorial Day, we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of our Great Nation—so that we may enjoy our lives with liberty, peace, prosperity and embolden our pursuit of happiness. We will never forget their bravery and service—their courageous commitment to our Country, and their dedication to the safety and security of us all. May God bless their families and loved ones, and may God bless the United States of America.

I am pleased to announce the Village of Rutland Street Resurfacing Project, a cooperative project with the Meigs County Engineer’s Office, has been selected for funding through the Local Transportation Improvement Program, administered by the Ohio Public Works Commission.

OPWC will fund 74% of the total project cost, with the Village funding 26%. The Village’s share will originate from the receipts of the municipal income tax, first levied in 2022.

Streets selected for paving under the Round 39 OPWC LTIP/SCIP Grant include Brick Street, College Avenue, Hill Street, Mulberry Street, Long Street and Union Avenue. The paving project is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2025.

As we await the fruition of the improvements, my sincerest appreciation is extended to the Rutland Village Council; Village Grants Administrator BJ Kreseen; Meigs County Engineer Eugene Triplett; Meigs County Assistant Engineer John Bentz; Meigs County Board of Commissioners; and Buckeye Hills Regional Council; along with a special appreciation to engineer staff Sara Walpole for assisting and including the Village in its cooperative Round 39 OPWC LTIP/SCIP Grant application.

Last week, I began my second term as Mayor of the Village of Rutland. It has been an unforgettable opportunity and sincere honor to serve as your Mayor during my first term; and I am eager to continue in our mission to revitalize our community.

While our Village may be small, our progress has been big. Together, we have accomplished the elimination of our more than $68,000 general fund deficit, secured more than $310,500 in grant funding, successfully completed five capital improvement projects, with a number of CIP’s planned and ongoing, condemned and demolished five unsightly and unsafe structures, and most importantly, we have created the most transparent government the Village of Rutland has ever seen. But, this list of achievements is far from complete.

My office door always remains open. I encourage and welcome your visit should you have questions or concerns.

Our journey isn’t over. To the Village as a whole—I look forward to serving you.
