The Grainger County Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1957 to promote business and industry within the county. The Chamber’s growing list of members include a diverse group of businesses, industries, and institutions. In addition, membership includes many individuals and families. Though small in number, the Chamber has a big heart and ambitious future plans. The Chamber hosts a variety of networ

king opportunities for members. These include bimonthly industry luncheons and after hours events. The highlight of the Chamber’s social calendar is with the annual Spring banquet. The banquet features a guest speaker- usually a local celebrity - and an awards presentation. Awards include Business of the Year, Industry of the Year, and Teachers of the Year. The board is comprised of members from four areas of the county, as well as several at-large members appointed by the president. The board’s membership reflects the diversity of the county’s business community. Members serve a one-year term. The Board meets monthly. The meetings are open to the public. The Chamber maintains an excellent working relationship with both the Grainger County and state government. Like the Chamber, the county is anxious to assist new business and industry. Parts of Grainger County have been designated an Enterprise Community by the federal government. As such, a variety of grants and low-interest loans are available for businesses that want to expand or relocate to Grainger County. Thank you! What a beautiful tribute..

Today, East Tennessee — and the world — mourns the loss of one of our own. 🦋

Dolly Parton may have been known around the world for her music, talent, and unmistakable personality, but here in East Tennessee, she meant something even more. She was a neighbor. Born and raised just a few counties from our home in Bean Station, Dolly never forgot the mountains, communities, and people who helped shape her.

For all that she accomplished, perhaps one of Dolly's greatest legacies will be the way she cared for others. Whether it was putting books into the hands of children through the Imagination Library, helping families affected by the devastating East Tennessee wildfires, supporting medical research, or quietly stepping forward when people needed help, she showed throughout her life what it means to give back.

That spirit of service is something especially meaningful to those of us in the fire service. We may serve in a very different way, but the principle is the same: take care of your neighbors, help when someone is hurting, and leave your community better than you found it.

Dolly never had to do the things she did for East Tennessee. She did them because these mountains were home, these communities were her communities, and caring for people was simply part of who she was.

From all of us at Bean Station Fire & Rescue, we extend our deepest condolences to Dolly's family, friends, and the countless people whose lives she touched.

East Tennessee has lost an icon, but the kindness, generosity, and love she poured back into these mountains will live on for generations.

Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for never forgetting where you came from — and for showing the world just how big an East Tennessee heart can be. 🦋

MEDIC is Seeking Shirt Designs from Regional High Schoolers

WHY:
MEDIC donors love a good t-shirt, and MEDIC is seeking design ideas from regional high school students. Students can submit their designs at the MEDIC website. The winner’s design will be featured on a spring shirt, and they’ll receive a $500 e-gift card.

Submission guidelines can be found at https://medicblood.org/hsshirtcontest/ as well as terms and conditions.

MEDIC is the primary blood product provider for 24 hospitals and air medical transport services across 23 counties. MEDIC services Blount Memorial, Covenant Health System, Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital, Tennova Healthcare, and UT Medical.

As a reminder, the blood, platelets, and plasma products on the shelves now are what would be used in a trauma event. Donated blood takes at least three days to be processed and ready for distribution.

MEDIC is an independent, nonprofit organization. Products donated through MEDIC help community members in East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. Products donated through any other collection activity/organization do not stay in East Tennessee or Southeastern Kentucky. They are shipped out of the area and nationally.
