Rutledge and Bean Station Fire Departments conducted acquired structure training last night, giving firefighters hands-on experience in critical skills. Training evolutions included search and rescue, hose line deployment and advancement, firefighter rescue, fire suppression, and scene size-up.

The training was led by Rutledge Fire Department Training Officer Travis Irwin, along with Assistant Chief Dustin Lane.

Grainger County is currently under a burn restriction.

Only campfires, outdoor grills and burn barrels with a mesh covering are permitted.

Burn permits are required until May 15th.

Rutledge Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire on Jackson Road. Engine 163 and Tanker 162 were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a two-story home with heavy fire showing from both levels. Additional assistance was requested from Blaine, Bean Station, and New Market Fire Departments to support water supply operations and provide additional manpower.

The Grainger County Sheriff’s Department and Grainger County EMS also responded and were on scene.
