Today's visitors to the Bishop Castle will find an impressively monumental statue in stone and iron that cries loud testament to the beauty and glory of not only Having a Dream, but Sticking with your Dream no matter what, and most importantly, that if you do believe in yourself and strive to maintain that belief, anything can happen! Three full stories of interior rooms complete with a Grand Ball

room, soaring towers and bridges with vistas of a hundred miles, and a Fire-Breathing Dragon make the Bishop Castle quite the unforgettable experience! Visitors are always welcome FREE of charge, and the castle itself is always OPEN. The drive to Bishop Castle will take you over 9,200 feet above sea level along the Frontier Pathways Scenic and Historic Byway. The easiest way to get to Bishop Castle is from I-25. Take exit #74 at Colorado City and head towards the mountains. (right off the exit ramp from the north and left off the exit ramp from the south) This puts you on Colorado state highway 165 and it's 24 miles without a turn to the Castle. You will see signs for the castle as you come upon it, and there's usually many cars out front. The Scenic Route, from Colorado Springs, is to take Hwy. 115 south to Florence, turn left at the first traffic light onto Hwy. 67, turn right onto Hwy 96 in Wetmore and at the next junction you will see signs for Bishop Castle. Turn left there onto Hwy. 165 and it's 12 miles. Bishop Castle can also be reached from the Salida area by heading east on Hwy. 50 to Texas Creek and turning right onto Hwy. 69 into Westcliffe. Turn left once in Westcliffe onto Hwy. 96 and travel until you see the Bishop Castle signs at the junction with Hwy. 165. Turn right and it's 12 miles.

🏰 Something is missing…

The Castle is still standing tall, but it feels incomplete without all of you exploring it.

We miss the laughter, the conversations, the familiar faces, and the excitement of welcoming visitors from near and far. Bishop Castle just isn’t the same without you.

Like so many of you, we’re eagerly waiting for the day Highway 165 reopens so we can welcome everyone back. We know many of you have been asking about the road.

We spoke with the Custer County Sheriff’s Office this morning, and they shared that they hope to have a better answer after a meeting with the Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, and CDOT on Friday at 10:00 a.m.

The Aspen Acres Fire has scorched nearly 102,000 acres in southern Colorado, threatening homes, businesses and lives. But amid the devastation, one of the state’s most beloved and unique landmarks has survived untouched.

As the wildfire crept closer to the property, admirers of the castle from around the world held their breath. The monument’s survival is particularly meaningful because of how it came to be.

Bishop Castle & Daniel Update | Wednesday, July 29, 2026

Highway 165 remains closed while firefighters continue working in areas near the castle. We know many of you are eager to visit, and we are too! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back. As soon as the highway reopens and visitors are able to return, we’ll share an update here on Facebook.

Some wonderful news about Daniel: He recently had follow-up X-rays of his pelvis, and it’s healing very well! His doctors have now cleared him to slowly begin putting weight on his right leg. He’s also continuing physical therapy at home to rebuild his strength and mobility. Every milestone is encouraging, and we’re so grateful for the progress he’s making.

Thank you to everyone who has kept all of the people affected by this fire and the firefighters continuing to protect the area in your thoughts. Every act of kindness truly makes a difference.

Bishop Castle Update | July 22

Today, the Bishop family was once again able to return home to Bishop Castle.

While the Aspen Acres Fire is still active, we’re incredibly grateful to be back. Every day we’re reminded of how fortunate we are and of the incredible work done by the firefighters, first responders, and everyone who helped protect our community.

The beauty of these mountains and the resilience of this landscape are truly remarkable.

Our hearts remain with everyone who has lost homes, is still recovering, or continues to be impacted by this fire. We know many families still have a long road ahead, and they remain in our thoughts and prayers.

For the latest evacuation, re-entry, and fire updates, please continue to follow the Custer County Sheriff's Office, Aspen Acres Fire 2026, or the Watch Duty app.

As Daniel continues his recovery, donations are still greatly appreciated and help support both his healing and the continued care of Bishop Castle. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for our family, supported us, and stood beside us throughout this journey. ❤️
