🇲🇽🇺🇸 A Farewell, a Thank You, and a Well-Deserved Congratulations🇺🇸🇲🇽

On behalf of the City of Sabinal, I had the privilege of recognizing The Honorable María de la Paloma Villaseñor Vargas, Cónsul Titular of Mexico in Del Rio, as she prepares to conclude her service in our Southwest Texas region and begin an important new chapter in Mexico City with Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Her service directly benefited Sabinal families through trusted consular assistance, guidance, advocacy, and outreach. Her efforts to strengthen the relationship between our region, Ciudad Acuña, and the State of Coahuila also supported the cross-border travel and commerce that flows through U.S. Highway 90 and Sabinal community. Mexican Nationals traveling Highway 90 through Sabinal patronize our local gas stations, restaurants, stores, and other businesses—supporting local jobs, generating sales tax revenue, and bringing additional resources back into our community. Her service strengthened not only the bonds between our people, but the economic vitality of Sabinal itself.

In recognition of her distinguished service, leadership, and friendship to Sabinal and the communities of Southwest Texas, I was honored to present Consul Villaseñor with a Proclamation of Appreciation.

Her work has helped strengthen relationships that extend far beyond an international boundary. The people of Texas and Mexico share generations of family, culture, commerce, friendship, and history, and leaders like Consul Villaseñor help ensure those relationships continue to grow stronger.🇲🇽❤️🇺🇸

While we are sad to see her leave our region, we are incredibly proud to see her talents and experience recognized with this new opportunity at the Mexican capital in Mexico City.

On behalf of the City of Sabinal, thank you, Consul Villaseñor, for your service and friendship to our region.

Congratulations on your promotion, and know that you will always have friend in Sabinal, Texas. 🇺🇸🫱🏻‍🫲🏾🇲🇽

The Cullins Avenue washout (“sinkhole”) project is moving forward, and we are on track to have this important roadway back open for public use very soon!

For a small community with limited resources, an unexpected failure of this magnitude is nothing short of a disaster—especially on a roadway as important as Cullins Avenue. This route serves our school traffic, families, and our baseball and softball fields, making a safe and lasting repair extremely important.

I’m very proud of the contractors completing this work alongside our amazing City team for the way this unprecedented issue has been handled. Instead of simply throwing their hands in the air/ throwing in the towel- the problem, the dangerous washout has been addressed, a solid foundation has been rebuilt, and the end result will be a safer, improved, and more drivable area on Cullins Avenue.

What started as a major and unexpected challenge is quickly becoming a successful long-term repair.

We’re almost there, Sabinal! Thank you Sabinal City Council for your support. Thank you to our community for your patience and understanding while this work is completed.

Last Friday, I submitted a letter to President Trump and his administration urging him to expedite their review of the July flooding that ravaged through many parts of South/Central Texas, including our district.

It's crucial that FEMA and the administration enable individual assistance to hundreds of families that are in urgent need to recover from this devastating event.
