⚠️ FLOOD UPDATE – CITY OF SABINAL ⚠️
According to meteorologists and state emergency officials, the Sabinal River is forecast to rise from approximately 17 feet to 33.4 feet by around 6:00 PM today—nearly 10 feet above major flood stage. If this forecast holds, it would be one of the highest river crests recorded in recent history.
The City of Sabinal is actively monitoring conditions and coordinating with local and state emergency management officials. Heavy rainfall north of Sabinal continues to move downstream, and river levels may rise rapidly with little warning.
Residents on or near River Street, River Street Alley, Northwest Front Street, First Street, or any other homes located near the Sabinal River, creeks, low-water crossings, or other flood-prone areas, as well as residents living in the City’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ), are strongly encouraged to prepare for the possibility of a voluntary evacuation should conditions continue to worsen.
If you may need to evacuate, prepare now. Gather important documents, medications, clothing, essential supplies, and make a plan for your family, pets, and livestock. Ensure pets have leashes, carriers, food, water, medications, and identification ready so they can be evacuated safely with you.
At this time, no mandatory evacuation order has been issued by the City of Sabinal. However, conditions can change rapidly. We urge everyone to stay alert, avoid flooded roadways and low-water crossings, and remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
City personnel, first responders, and emergency management officials will continue monitoring conditions throughout the day and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
