Good Afternoon Sac City Residents!

We would like to let our public know that at this time, the inclement weather siren located at the South Park by the swimming pool is currently offline due to electrical and technical difficulties. Our city is working as fast as they can to get it back up and running fully functional again. In the meantime, if there is any need for sirens to be activated, the south side of town will be alerted by us by means of our PA systems to alert people to take shelter if they are outside. This action was taken last night to ensure our residents’ safety after a tornado warning was in effect and cloud rotation was reported to our department. We would also like to remind our community that although the sirens are a great form of awareness, other forms of awareness are available including but not limited to FM Radio, Television Broadcasting, NOAA Radio and Mobile Phone Alerts. Thank you Sac City for staying informed and remember that your safety is our number one priority.

With the potential for severe weather on the forecast for this evening, we want to take a moment to refresh everyone on the outdoor sirens.

- The sirens are activated for any potentially damaging weather conditions - tornado, high winds (70+ MPH), and potentially large hail.
- They are activated at the request of the NWS and/or local law enforcement and fire departments serving as storm spotters
- THERE IS NO ALL-CLEAR SIGNAL! The sirens will sound for the duration of the threat

And most importantly - the sirens are an outdoor warning system only - they are not intended or guaranteed to alert you inside your home or place of employment. You should always have an additional method to recieve alerts - local television stations, local FM radio, NOAA radio, or a mobile device with Wireless Emergency Alerts activated and/or trusted apps in use.

Stay informed, and stay safe!

On May 4th, Officer Snyder was invited once again to teach the youth from surrounding school districts about firearm safety during Agriculture Safety Day. Officer Snyder educated several groups about how to secure, handle and safely fire weapons. Several fi****ms(unloaded) were brought for the kids to examine at a distance. At the end of each session, the kids were able to ask Officer Snyder all sorts of questions about Police work and those “what if?” situations. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Sac County ISU Extension Office for having us as well as to all that attended to make themselves further aware on how to be safe with not only fi****ms but also various other topics. ☺️

**AWARENESS FOR PARENTS OF SMALL CHILDREN**

Parents, we know small children tend to be curious and tend to put things in their mouths. Kids love candy and snacks in general. It is a friendly reminder that candy and snacks such as brownies, cookies, and gummy candies, are used at times to be laced with controlled substances including but not limited to Ma*****na, L*D, M**A and in some cases Fentanyl. It is strongly encouraged as a parent to remind your children that if they locate food or snacks in a public place on the ground or if a stranger gives something to them to not consume it.

It was reported to law enforcement today that a small child was brought to the ER after she was seen not acting right by her parents. It was later learned that the child tested positive for THC. The parents believe that given the time frame, the child may have consumed something similar to a gummy that was on the ground while playing at one of the local parks. The Sac City Police Department along with the Sac County Sheriffs Office K9 Unit responded to the park and did a thorough search of the area. No K9 indications or signs of suspicious materials were located. This incident is still under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact the Sac City Police at 712-662-7772.

Thank you to all parents and guardians for staying aware and have a great weekend.
