Heavy rain is expected to continue through the week. Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles, and water on roadways is often deeper than it appears.

Today, we pause.

Memorial Day is set apart to honor the men and women who gave everything in service to this country. Their sacrifice made possible every freedom we hold, and we are grateful beyond words.

To the fallen, and to the families who carry their memory: we will not forget.

As you gather with loved ones today, please celebrate safely and look out for one another.

We’re proud to have Ofc. Wright on our team, and we couldn’t be prouder of her for the honor of her recognition by MADD Texas!

Today, we honor and celebrate the dedicated men and women of law enforcement during National Police Week. It’s a time to recognize their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to keeping our communities safe. Join us in expressing gratitude to those who serve and in remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Officer Emily Wright with the Sachse Police Department says, "DWI enforcement is important because it helps reduce alcohol- and drug-related crashes, injuries, and deaths within our community. We use traffic stops, patrols, and arrests to discourage impaired driving and keep the public safe. One drunk driver taken off the road through active enforcement can save the lives of other motorists and the offender alike. It creates a safer environment for all who live and visit the City of Sachse."

MADD Texas extends its sincere appreciation to Officer Emily Wright for her unwavering commitment and service. In 2024, she received the MADD Enforcement Hero Award for her outstanding service. She is a Training Officer with the Sachse Police Department and has a significant impact on new officers, helping them learn to effectively enforce alcohol-related offenses. We recognize and deeply value her dedication to the safety and well-being of our communities.

Our goal, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, is to reduce crashes, injuries, and deaths on Texas Roadways. Join us in our mission to create a safer community.

We're proud of Officer Samano and grateful to MADD Texas for this recognition. Finishing field training in April and already making over 10 DWI arrests speaks for itself. Thank you, Officer Samano, for your commitment to keeping Sachse roads safe.

Officer Mark Samano with the Sachse Police Department says, "DWI enforcement is very important to me because it helps keep our roadways and community safe. Every year, innocent people are injured or killed because of the poor decisions made by impaired drivers. I believe proactive DWI enforcement plays a major role in preventing tragedies and protecting the public before lives are changed forever. As a fairly new police officer, I have not yet had extensive experience dealing with impaired drivers on the job. However, I understand the serious consequences these incidents can have on victims, families, and the community. I also have friends and family members who have been affected by intoxicated drivers, which has given me a personal understanding of how damaging these situations can be and has strengthened my commitment to DWI enforcement."

MADD Texas extends its sincere appreciation to Officer Mark Samano for his unwavering commitment, professionalism, and service. He just finished his field training with the Sachse Police Department in April 2026. This year alone, as a brand-new officer, Officer Samano has already made over 10 DWI arrests. We recognize and deeply value his dedication to the safety and well-being of our communities.

Our goal, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, is to reduce crashes, injuries, and deaths on Texas Roadways. Join us in our mission to create a safer community.

Starting this week, you may notice fewer alert-style posts on our pages. Here's a look at the decision behind that change.

After a recent review, we made the decision to disconnect our Nixle emergency notification system from automatic Facebook posting, and public safety is the core reason why.

Facebook's algorithm decides who sees what, and that's not a reliable foundation for emergency alerts. Residents who follow us on Facebook may assume they're seeing all city notifications, but there's no guarantee those posts ever reach your feed. Direct Nixle subscribers receive alerts straight to their phones via text or email, regardless of any algorithm. When it comes to public safety information, that certainty matters.

After reviewing months of engagement data, we also found that the volume of Nixle auto-posts was reducing how many of you saw our community content, like event announcements, program updates, and neighborhood news. This change should mean more of our content actually reaches you.

More than 20,000 people are already subscribed to Sachse Nixle alerts directly. If you aren't yet, we'd encourage you to sign up. Text 75048 to 888777.

This week, we join the nation in observing National Police Week, a time to honor the men and women who serve in law enforcement and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us this morning for our flag lowering ceremony to mark this solemn occasion. To the officers who protect and serve Sachse every day, and to the families who stand behind them: thank you.
