Progress!

Rough seas have hindered Mohawk Northeast but the work on the new spur jetty is making progress. Both barges are now back at the jetty after taking refuge up river from storms that roiled ocean waters. There are two barges filled with rocks moored near Eagle Island.

From U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Project Manager Jen Thalhauser: "Our jetty construction continues to advance on schedule, with the project successfully hitting several key milestones. Approximately 500 feet of marine mattress have been successfully placed, and nearly 9,000 tons of stone have been delivered to the site. Construction is moving forward steadily, with nearly 100 feet of the total 750-foot spur jetty now completed. Additionally, representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) visited the site last Thursday to review the project's progress. Mohawk will maintain its active operations on-site until winter weather conditions present a sustained safety or construction concern."

As we transition into fall, here are your seasonal S**o beach updates:

BATHROOMS
The beach bathrooms located at Bayview Beach and the Camp Ellis Pier will close for the season on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026.*

BEACH ACCESSIBILITY MAT
Beach accessibility mats at Bayview Beach and Camp Ellis Beach have been removed early for the season due to the recent nor’easter. The beach mats will be reinstalled in the spring.

DOGS ON THE BEACH
Starting tomorrow, Oct. 1, through March 31, dogs may be off leash on S**o’s beaches if they are under voice and sight control. Dogs must be on leash while entering or exiting vehicles at the beach.

YEAR-ROUND BEACH SEASON
While the beach may be less busy and warm this time of year, there’s plenty of beauty to experience on S**o’s coastline, even in the off-season. Learn more through our link in the comments.
