Saco Fire Department Call Division The S**o Fire Call Division are your friendly neighbors who, as on call emergency responders, are are always there during your time of need.

We as a a division of the S**o Fire Department wanted to give the public a means of seeing our monthly trainings and any events that we will do in the future as well as to give recognition to members of our department. Please do not post questions or details about incidents that the S**o Fire Department may of had involvement in.

FINAL REMINDER! S**o Fire Department Open House is this Saturday, May 16, from 9:00 AM to noon. Will you join us?

When you arrive, pick up this year's “passport” to complete by visiting different areas of the station. Anyone who completes their passport will receive some fun prizes, like stickers, slap bracelets, and mini first aid kits, and will also be entered into a raffle for a one-of-a-kind experience: a ride in the fire truck during the 2026 S**o Main Street Parade of Lights!

During the open house, you can tour the station and talk with:

• Our Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service Providers, who are ready to answer questions about their work in the community
• S**o Police Department’s Community Engagement Specialist, with information on local support services and S**o’s CodeRED emergency alert system
• American Red Cross staff, sharing guidance on home safety and emergency preparedness
• The S**o Fire Department Call Division, with insights on local volunteer opportunities
• AAA, offering a distracted driving experience with virtual reality goggles and a simulation tool
• York County Emergency Management Agency, highlighting their Community Emergency Response Team
• The Michael T. Goulet Foundation, with free bicycle helmet fittings

Our thoughts are with the members of the Warden Service on the loss of one of their own today.

We are heartbroken to share that a Maine Game Warden died this morning following a plane crash in Avon, near Schoolhouse Pond. The crash occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m.

This is a devastating loss for the Maine Warden Service, our Department, and the people of Maine. Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones, colleagues, and all those impacted by this tragedy.

We will share additional information as it becomes available.

This International Firefighters Day, we would like to take a moment to recognize S**o’s incredible Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service Providers!

They quickly respond to emergency situations, big and small. Whether battling flames, providing lifesaving medical care, or assisting families through emergencies, they do it all with unwavering professionalism and compassion, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We are so grateful for this team of first responders here in S**o who have chosen public service focused on protecting the S**o community.

If you’d like to meet S**o’s Firefighters and EMS Providers, there’s no better time than S**o FD’s Open House on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The department will welcome the public to explore Central Station, take part in demonstrations and ask questions about the work they do.

Route 1 has reopened to all traffic.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY
US Route 1 in S**o is closed to all traffic between Spring Hill Road and Cascade Road due to a motor vehicle crash. The closure is expected to last for several hours. Please avoid the area and seek an alternate route.

We will update this posting when the road has re-opened.

Thanks to the team in the dispatch center for all they do!

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and we’re recognizing the team that works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to keep S**o’s residents and visitors safe.

This annual recognition week celebrates the critical work of dispatchers across the country. We’re thankful for our dedicated and compassionate Emergency Communications Specialists, who S**o’s fire and police personnel rely on to provide timely and appropriate responses in emergency situations.

S**o’s group of eight emergency telecommunications professionals represent more than 50 years of combined service to our community. They show up every day, providing vital and compassionate assistance to all who call.

From March 2025 to March 2026, our team responded to 24,431 calls for service, an average of 67 calls per day!

Please join us in thanking these incredible individuals for their ongoing service to our community, fulfilling the challenging role of connecting those in critical need with our police, fire, and EMS personnel.

The City of S**o has issued a citywide snow emergency parking ban starting at 7:00 PM on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, until 7:00 AM on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026.

Please do not park on any city street during this time. Any vehicle parked on a public roadway is subject to ticket, tow, and storage fees at the owner's expense, with alternate timing for specific downtown areas only.

Downtown Parking Ban Rules: The following specific downtown areas are exempt from Snow Emergency Parking Bans from 7:00 AM to midnight — Main Street between Cutts Avenue and Gooch Street, as well as Cutts Avenue, Thornton Avenue, Pleasant Street, Storer Street, and Water Street between Main Street and Elm Street ONLY. This allows residents and visitors to access downtown businesses if they remain open during a storm.

While you're there, sign up for e-mail alerts to be notified directly next time a parking ban is issued!

The S**o Transfer Station is closed Sunday and Monday as normally scheduled.
