Yesterday, Team Dahle toured the newly completed pump station at the Sutter National Wildlife Refuge. This $16 million pump station will disperse water from the East Burrow Ditch to ease the longstanding water management challenges that the refuge has faced while maintaining the 1,540 acres of wetlands in its domain.

I am proud to see another successful habitat restoration and improvement project in SD01! After decades of work, I would like to give special recognition to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ducks Unlimited, Bureau of Reclamation, CA Natural Resources Agency, Northern CA Water Association and other regional partners on collaborating to benefit the wildlife and agricultural land supported in the area.

For more information on this project and the partners that spent years working together to bring this station to life, check out the article below.

Today marks the last day that my friend Asm. Gallagher will serve in the CA State Assembly before heading to Washington, D.C. to represent the people of California’s 1st Congressional District, a district that shares many counties with the 1st Senate District.

Serving alongside Asm. Gallagher is one of the experiences I will hold near and dear as I watch my friend continue his service in this next chapter. We spent years working together on legislation, collaborating on ideas, and building a friendship that will outlast any term limits. Asm. Gallagher’s dedication to the people he serves coupled with his unwavering faith will make him a wonderful addition in Washington D.C..

Brian and I wish Asm. Gallagher nothing but blessings and success in this next endeavor serving the constituents of California’s 1st Congressional District.

Last week the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force released its draft action plan — which sets the three primary goals

● Ramping up the acreage treated for excess fuels, while targeting the highest-need areas.
● Better protecting communities through fuel breaks, defensible space and home-hardening.
● Organizing regionally to plan projects and bring partners and landowners together.

I especially appreciate the recognition, grounded in science, that we in California must do still more to manage our forests to keep them sustainable in the face of growing wildfires that threaten to reduce these landscapes to snags and brushfields — not to mention the impact to people of heavy smoke, long evacuations, and lost homes.

The action plan is a draft open for public comment. If you'd like to learn more and share your thoughts, you can read it at https://actionplan2026.wildfiretaskforce.org/.

My team recently joined other community leaders and curious locals on the annual Placer County Ag Tour, which focused this year on farmers markets and the small to medium producers who specialize on the direct-to-consumer market.

It was a wonderful and educational event, highlighting the wonders of local produce and flavors you just don't always find in the store, as well as the challenges — water, high costs of doing business — of producing in California.

Check out this great video from the Placer County Government Agriculture Commissioner sharing more about the day.

Heads-up, North State Drivers!

This work — whose goal is to keep those boulders from tumbling down onto cars — will cause major delays on Highway 299 in eastern Shasta County, starting Monday.

There's a lot of road work around the region happening all at once. QuickMap.dot.ca.gov is a great resource for getting timely news on highway conditions.

This week Team Dahle was in Weaverville for a tour of forest-health projects as well as the Trinity River Lumber mill, organized by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy as part of its board meeting.

While just outside the 1st Senate District, these forests and watersheds face many of the same challenges and wildfire risks as we face in the mountains further inland — and the waters of the Trinity River are a key component of the Central Valley Project, generating power, irrigating farms and supplying drinking water in the Sacramento Valley.

I appreciate the conservancy's ongoing support for community-based work to improve our landscapes' resilience. Today the board took up several projects to reduce wildland fuels, as well as to support recreational improvements, in Butte, Tehama, Nevada and Placer counties. This is very important work to preserve one of the last major northern Sierra watersheds not heavily impacted by major wildfires in recent years. Glad to see the effort to keep our North State forests green and healthy.

College of the Siskiyous, in W**d, is one of the smallest campuses in the California Community College system — though it boasts some of the best views. Like many rural colleges, it can struggle to enroll enough students to keep programs consistently running to serve local needs.

Growing enrollment and the capacity to better serve its region is the goal of Assembly Bill 1555, which I am co-authoring with Assemblymember Heather Hadwick. I am excited to announce that it passed out of the Senate Education Committee yesterday and is continuing on the road toward becoming law.

Building on a model that has worked for other colleges serving border communities, AB 1555 would allow College of the Siskiyous to enroll students from neighboring counties in southern Oregon and let them pay in-state tuition. Bringing these additional students on board will help the college sustain the critical higher-education and workforce programs that are so critical to the economy at the top of the state, and it expands a tradition of interstate partnerships in higher education.

I am grateful for the support of the committee and the leadership of College of the Siskiyous in developing this plan.

If you are up in Modoc, Lassen or Plumas counties, please mind the fire conditions and Cal Fire's "No-Burn Day" declaration through the weekend.

It's the fire season again. Let's all do our part to keep safe.

UPDATE: A "No-Burn Day" has been declared for Lassen, Modoc, and Plumas Counties Monday, June 8, 2026, ending Tuesday morning June 9, 2026, due to wind conditions raising fire danger concerns.
