Thank you to the Sacramento Police Department for their swift work in identifying and arresting the individual suspected of causing yesterday’s fatal hit-and-run that took the life of a young girl.
While no arrest can undo this heartbreaking loss, I hope it brings some measure of comfort to her family and loved ones to know that the person responsible has been found and will face accountability. My thoughts remain with everyone grieving this unimaginable tragedy.
UPDATE: Thanks to the dedicated work of our Major Collision Investigators, the Sacramento Police Department is proud to announce the identification and arrest of the suspect in this case.
This arrest, made less than 24 hours after the incident, is the result of the coordinated efforts of responding officers, crime scene investigators who processed the scene, and detectives who worked tirelessly, including an approximately four-hour neighborhood canvass.
As a result of this work, 30-year-old Miracle Merritt of Sacramento was located and arrested on felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges.

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, just before 8:00 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to reports of a vehicle vs. mini-motorcycle collision near 36th Street and 19th Avenue. Responding officers located an adult male and a 9-year-old female, both having injuries consistent with being involved in a collision. Both were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Sadly, the 9-year-old female was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the collision and prior to police arrival.
Due to the circumstances, our Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) detectives and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene, canvassed the area, and interviewed witnesses. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next-of-kin have been notified.
