Over 20 Los Angeles County Division cities have signed a Cal Cities letter urging lawmakers to reject any wildfire package that limits public agency recovery when private electric utilities cause wildfires.

When private electric utilities cause wildfires, local taxpayers and wildfire survivors should not be forced to absorb the costs. Cities need the resources to rebuild critical infrastructure, provide emergency response, and help their communities recover.

Last week, the Los Angeles County Division hosted our June 2026 General Membership Meeting, where members received a special update from Shivaji Deshmukh, General Manager of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Attendees heard valuable insights on regional water issues, long-term planning efforts, and the challenges and opportunities facing Southern California’s water needs.
