Girl Scouts of Northern California Troop 62435 from City of San José came to the Capitol to share their powerful perspectives on (Assemblymember Gail Pellerin), our co-sponsored bill with Unchained At Last to end child marriage in California. Their voices, along with the support of countless advocates across the state, helped keep the momentum strong.

California is one signature away from ending child marriage!

AB 1267 (Assemblymember Gail Pellerin), co-sponsored by Unchained At Last, would finally set the minimum marriage age at 18 with no exceptions. After years of stalled efforts and powerful testimony from survivors, AB 1267 unanimously passed the Assembly and is headed to Governor Gavin Newsom's desk! AB 1267 will protect minors from coercion and exploitation and close loopholes that have allowed child marriage to continue in California.

We heard the powerful voices of Girl Scout Troop 62435 from City of San José's Girl Scouts of Northern California, who came to Sacramento today to talk to legislators at the Assembly Judiciary Committee. Along with our Executive Director Darcy Totten, and our partners Unchained At Last, the Girl Scouts testified in support of our co-sponsored bill AB 1267 (Assemblymember Gail Pellerin), which will ban child marriage in California. Their youth testimony showed why this bill is urgently needed and how youth engagement in government can move the needle on important policy.

Moments like these remind us how strong our impact can be when partners, advocates, and young leaders collaborate to create policy that makes lives better for girls. Thanks to our partners and Commissioner Assemblymember Gail Pellerin, the bill received unanimous support and passed out of the Assembly Judiciary Committee. Next stop is the Assembly Floor and one step closer to becoming law!

Congratulations to the 2027–28 leadership team for the California Asian American and Pacific Islander Caucus!

We are excited to continue our work with our Commissioner Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen and congratulate her on her selection as Chair. We will continue our efforts to advocate for pay equity for AANHPI women, find ways to better use data to inform decisions affecting the many groups that make up the AANHPI community, and continue to combat gender bias.
