Old Sacramento State Historic Park preserves, protects, enhances and interprets the embarcadero of early Sacramento. In the 1840s and 1850s, tens of thousands of gold seekers came to California, landing on the wharves here. They headed for the gold fields and shipped their treasure to the mint here. In the 1860s and 1870s, the Central Pacific Railroad began building east from this spot, and for ma

ny years, this was the commercial and economic hub of Sacramento and California. Today, Old Sacramento SHP and its many festivals, events and celebrations are a major destination for those interested in history and fun. Major components include the California State Railroad Museum, the B.F. Hastings Building, the Eagle Theatre, Central Pacific Passenger Depot, and Pony Express Park.
