July in 1988, motorcycle safety entered the digital era with the introduction of electronic Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS).

While motorcycle ABS a requirement in some other countries, it is optional in the United States. It aims to prevent catastrophic wheel lock-up during maximum braking—keeping the motorcycle upright if panic hits.

Thinking about swapping your stock motorcycle turn signals for a sleek, aftermarket setup? 🛑 HOLD UP! 🛑

Those tiny custom lights might look incredible parked at the bike night, but ask yourself: Are they actually keeping you visible on the road?

Motorcycle lighting modifications are one of the easiest ways to accidentally lower your visibility, risk a ticket, and even increase your legal liability if you get into an accident. Before you start cutting wires and mounting those new indicators, you need to do your homework on the law.

If you are riding in California, your setup must comply with Title 13 CCR 699. Here is the breakdown:

➡️ Front Turn Signals (Post-1973): Must be at least 40 cm (16 inches) apart for all motorcycles manufactured after January 1, 1973.

➡️ Front Turn Signals (Pre-1973): Must be at least 23 cm (9 inches) apart if manufactured before January 1, 1973.

➡️ Rear Turn Signals (All Years): Must be at least 23 cm (9 inches) apart.

⚠️ The Truth About Integrated Tail Lights: Thinking about deleting your OEM signals for an integrated brake/turn signal combo? If you use an integrated light bar as a total replacement for your OEM signals, you are likely NOT California legal because it violates the distance requirements. However, if you use it as a supplement alongside legal, wide-spaced signals, you may stay compliant.

Bottom line: Don't sacrifice safety for aesthetics. Your visibility is your life insurance on two wheels! 🏍️💨

"Extreme caution" isn't just a suggestion—it's a mindset. 🛑

When you see this yellow advisory sign on the road, it means conditions are changing and the stakes are officially higher. For riders, "extreme caution" means locking in your focus and scanning the asphalt for hidden hazards like loose gravel, rain grooves, metal grates, uneven lanes, or sudden friction changes. On two wheels, these minor road imperfections can quickly turn into major threats.

But road safety isn't a solo mission. Drivers, when you pass these signs, please give motorcyclists extra space. A rider might need to swerve suddenly to avoid a hazard you can't even see from inside your car, or their braking distance might change. Everyone needs to share the road responsibly so we can ensure that every single rider and driver gets home safely to their families. 🐻⚡
