Women's Veterans Day is honored every June to commemorate the signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, which granted women the right to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces. This landmark legislation marked a critical step toward recognizing their service and expanding opportunities in the military.

Today, women serve in every branch of the military, demonstrating courage, leadership, resilience, and dedication. I was honored, as the daughter of a veteran, to acknowledge their service and fight for equality at the first annual Women's Veterans Day Walk this past week. Santa Clara County is proud to support these brave women through our Santa Clara County Office of Veteran Services.

Thank you to Open Doors to Future Possibilities, Inc. for having me at this impactful event.

Happy Children's Day from District 4!

Kids and their families are at the heart of every single thing I do as your Supervisor (and as a mom of three), from supporting our County's public hospital and health system to advocating for affordable, accessible child care. Since I was elected nearly eight years ago, I have always maintained that if families have all of the resources they need to support themselves and care for their little ones, we could stop so many cycles of harm in their tracks, and our entire County would be that much happier, healthier, and safer.

And my priorities haven't changed throughout my years in office. Every decision I make, every discussion I have, and every community event I host, our kids are always top of mind. A teacher at heart, I will always fight for children and I'm so thankful to have amazing partners in this work, including FIRST 5 Santa Clara County, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, African American Community Service Agency, Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ Affairs, Santa Clara County Office of Education, and so many more.

I hope you take today to appreciate the children in your life, support them, and most importantly… play!

It’s a beautiful day at the Santa Clara Farmers Market! Stop by to support our local small businesses, and while you’re here, come say hello at my booth and pick up my book explaining what County Government does.

I also have plenty of books available for summer reading. Bring your little ones along, browse a great selection of children’s books, and help inspire a love of reading all summer long. Most are both in Spanish and English. Hope to see you! 📚☀️🌽🍓

June is the Great Outdoors Month, and there are so many wonderful outside activities constantly happening in our 28 Santa Clara County Parks all the time, from fishing to crafternoons for little ones. But one activity in particular hosted by a newly founded group is empowering young girls to find more connection not only with themselves, but with each other: mountain biking with the Sisterhood of Unicorns.

Jessica Tseng, board president of Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers, founded this sisterhood after leaving a 20-year career in big tech to encourage more girls to pick up the all too often male-dominated sport. I spoke with Jessica in the newest episode of my podcast, And Just One More Thing, where she shared this camp goes beyond mountain biking to build self-confidence, create lasting friendships, and inspire a network of young girls supporting and uplifting one another. My staff also attended a couple mountain biking sessions and spoke with a few of the girls about their experience.

The FIFA World Cup is finally kicking off in City of Santa Clara, right here in District 4 at Levi's Stadium!

I couldn't be more excited to welcome players from across the world to our County to play the world's most popular sport in our backyard, repping our local San Jose Earthquakes and Bay Football Club. This global event, put on by the Bay Area Host Committee, really is a macrocosm of the diversity we are proud to have here… diversity that strengthens the fabric of our community and makes us who we are. I know we will shine on the world stage, and I can't wait to see what the coming weeks bring, match after match, goal after goal.

Happy, happy Pride Month from District 4 (and your public hospital system!)

We raised the Pride flag at all of Santa Clara County's hospitals today, including Valley Medical Center and O'Connor Hospital, to celebrate our LGBTQ+ neighbors, from our hardworking health care staff to patients receiving gender affirming care at our Gender Health Center, to advocates. We continue to honor Pride — which originated as a rallying cry for the fight to exist — in today's climate where increasingly hateful rhetoric leads to real danger nationwide. We continue to advance equity through our Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ Affairs, The Q Corner, Billy DeFrank LGBTQ Community Center, and County Of Santa Clara Behavioral Health Services. And we continue to uplift LGBTQ+ families and residents because their stories make up the fabric of our communities.

I am proud to be a partner and an ally in this work. Thank you to Santa Clara Valley Healthcare for having me today.

Behind every budget cut is a real person losing real care.

Santa Clara County has done its part. Voters stepped up. Our hospital system stepped up. Our community stepped up.

Now the State must step up and say:

No cuts to public hospitals.
No cuts to indigent care.
No rollback of Medi‑Cal managed care.

Medi‑Cal must stay in managed care. Lives depend on it.

Thank you to Latinas Contra Cancer, Monterey County Supervisor Luis A. Alejo, the Office of Assemblymember Ash Kalra, Working Partnerships USA, Amigos de Guadalupe, All Things Disability Equity, and the Office of Senator Dave Cortese for standing up for our community today.

It only makes sense that I felt the full range of emotions in May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, with County Of Santa Clara Behavioral Health Services top of mind. We have made significant progress toward our in-patient bed goal to help more residents, but at the same time, cuts to Medicaid by the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" and the state's shift from the Mental Health Services Act to the Behavioral Health Services Act are limiting our control over vital programs we know work. Put simply, the state and federal governments are expecting us to meet their mandates with far fewer resources — it's the perfect storm, especially for some our County's most vulnerable neighbors.

Affordable housing can sometimes feel more theoretical than tangible in our ever-expensive Silicon Valley. It can be hard to picture what a truly thriving, reasonably priced residence can look like when we see rent prices and the cost-of-living skyrocketing constantly. Mariposa Place, a new housing development with more than 75 affordable homes in District 4 for low-income and formerly homeless residents, is proof that we can create communities to support our neighbors who need our help, like Darlynn.

I spoke with Darlynn about her experience in Mariposa Place at its grand opening (aptly timed for Affordable Housing Month) in the latest episode of my podcast, And Just One More Thing. She told me how her new home has changed her life, and generously gave me a tour of her apartment, with all of its gold pizzazz.

To hear about what it's like living in an affordable housing development from Darlynn and another resident, click here for the full episode: https://youtu.be/TWdSSYlPAdo?si=D7le2lzcC9HyccR3

Thank you to The Danco Group, the Office of Supportive Housing, the Santa Clara County Housing Authority, City of San José, Destination: Home, and THRIVE for helping make this development a reality.
