The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) is the Sacramento region’s largest sewage collection, treatment, and resource recovery utility–providing service to over 1.6 million people. The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) provides local sewage collection services to more than one million people in the Sacramento region, including the unincorporated Sacramento County; the cities of Citru

s Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, and West Sacramento; and the communities of Courtland, Locke, and Walnut Grove. SacSewer owns and operates over 5,000 miles of lower lateral and main line sewer pipes, as well as 117 pump stations. We are responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of these sewer pipes and pump stations. Once collected in our system, sewage is conveyed to the EchoWater Resource Recovery Facility near Elk Grove. SacSewer was formed in 1978 and is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors representing the various city and county jurisdictions in our service area. Visit www.sacsewer.com to learn more.

From butterflies visiting clustered blooms to moths and bats working the night shift, pollinators play an important role in helping plants reproduce and supporting healthy ecosystems.

SacSewer’s Pollination Station highlights several local native pollinators and shows how native landscaping can help create habitat for the species that keep our environment thriving.

What the Flush?! 🤯

You would NOT believe some of the things our crews have found in sewer pipes…
🍴 Kitchen utensils
📿 Gold chains
⌚ Watches
🛒 A shopping cart
🛋️ Even a couch!

While these discoveries may seem surprising (or even funny), items that don't belong in the sewer can cause blockages, backups, and costly repairs. 🚧

The sewer system is designed to carry the 3 Ps: p*e, p**p, and (toilet) paper. 🚽🧻

Help keep our sewer system flowing properly by remembering: if it’s not one of the 3 Ps, don’t flush it! 💧✔️

90,000 tests a year. One question: which test matters most? 🧪

At SacSewer’s Environmental Laboratory, testing plays a critical role in protecting public health and the environment. But which test is one of the most important?

Hear from Environmental Lab Manager Michael Cook as he explains how our laboratory team helps verify the treatment process is working effectively before treated water is returned to the Sacramento River. 💧✔️
