The Valley fever fungus grows in the dirt in parts of California, even though you can’t see it. It’s especially common in California's Central Valley and Central Coast. When the fungus gets in the air, people can breathe it in and get sick.
Valley fever symptoms include:
- Cough
- Fever
- Fatigue/exhaustion
- Chest pain
If you work outside in dusty areas and have symptoms that aren’t getting better, it’s important to talk to a doctor and ask if it could be Valley fever.
