On this day... 24 years ago 246 people boarded their morning flights. 2,731 woke up and went to work. 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, & 8 paramedics were working their scheduled shifts to serve and protect others. All 3,142 of these people lost their lives on Sept 11, 2001. Life can change in a moment without any notice and it will never be the same again. We all remember exactly where we were that morning and always will.
No matter what your political, religious, or personal views are on what is going on in this world we live in today, we ask that you remember September 11, 2001 and act like we did on September 12, 2001. We showed that we were proud to live in the United States of America and we displayed our star spangled banner proudly in every way possible.
Before every SHFD meeting, our members stand, cover their hearts with their right hand and recite the pledge of allegiance. Today, we have the flag on our pole at half staff, one of our fire engines sitting out front with flag draped across the hood, and a single set of gear stationed next to it. We do this to honor the victims of September 11th. This includes the 343 of our brother and sister Firefighters that answered the call, just as we proudly do every time the pager goes off. Tonight when we are training, we will remember these heroes and train hard in their honor so that we too, are ready when the call comes in.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
