In the early 20th century, roughly 5000 rural schools were built in the South to serve African American students. These schools were the result of a collaboration between Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald (president of Sears, Roebuck and Company). Many of these locations closed when Southern states were required to desegregate the schools. We were one of the lucky areas to host a Rosenwald school. Once forgotten, its walls echoing with the laughter of eager students, a vibrant hub of learning and hope. The revitalized Sadieville's Rosenwald school stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of education and community empowerment. We invite you to drive by and witness a piece of history!
