Last week, our Apparatus Committee traveled to Appleton, Wisconsin to complete the final inspection of our new ladder truck. This new Pierce Velocity 107-foot Aerial will replace our current Truck 53, a 2013 Pierce Velocity 75-foot Aerial.

The committee worked several days at the factory, going line by line through the specifications to ensure every detail met our expectations. They also conducted thorough road testing and operated the aerial device firsthand to confirm performance.

Delivery is expected next week. In the coming weeks, the truck will be outfitted with equipment and Pierce Manufacturing will provide in-service training to all personnel.

We look forward to seeing this apparatus serving our community and are excited for everyone to see it running calls in the near future.

This week, our crews participated in the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport Triennial Full-Scale Exercise, working alongside multiple law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and Sunstar.

Our crews launched Fire Boat 52 from the Courtney Campbell Causeway Boat Ramp in response to a simulated aircraft emergency into the Tampa Bay waters near the airport.

Safety Harbor 200 was in Command of the Courtney Campbell Boat Ramp and coordinated efforts with Airport Command for resources and needs.

These exercises are critical to the preparation and coordination of multiple assets responding from multiple agencies.

As of Tuesday, April 21st Pinellas County has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning. Even the smallest spark can quickly grow into a dangerous wildfire in these conditions.

Help us keep Pinellas County safe. As a reminder, the burning of yard debris is always prohibited in Pinellas County per Pinellas County Ordinance Sec. 58-206.
Remember:
❌No burning of yard waste (leaves, branches, brush).
❌No burning of household trash or construction debris.
⚠️Caution: Refrain from burning small fire pits.
⚠️Caution: Keep vehicles off dry grass and don't throw ci******es or matches out of a moving vehicle.

Dry conditions will continue on Tuesday. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for all counties in west central and southwest Florida Tuesday from 11 AM to 8 PM. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, as any fires that develop could spread rapidly.
