The Southside Fire Station project is officially getting underway—and you’re going to start seeing a lot more activity at the site.

Today, crews were on site beginning the clearing and grubbing of the property, marking the first visible steps toward construction of the new station.

We know this project has been a long time coming, and we’re excited to see it finally begin to take shape.

A sincere thank you to the Southside Fire Station Committee for their continued hard work and dedication in getting this project off the ground, to our architectural design team and OPM for their assistance throughout the process, and, most importantly, to the citizens of Bourne for your continued support.

This project is about more than a new building. It is an investment in public safety and in the future of our community—a facility designed to meet the needs of Bourne today and well into the future.

We’re looking forward to watching this project come to life. 🚒

Welcome, Hailee!

Hailee has officially started her orientation and onboarding with the department and will continue her training as she prepares to attend the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow this November.

We want to take a moment to thank Chloe Handlin for all of her hard work helping Bourne Fire/Rescue get more than $500,000 worth of new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and rapid intervention team (RIT) equipment, purchased through FEMA grant funding, ready for service.

Chloe didn't just help prep and organize the equipment so it could be put into service—she also took on the important task of inventorying and cataloging every piece of equipment, making it much easier for us to track assets, inspections, and future maintenance.

Chloe is a Mass Maritime Academy cadet who chose to complete her co-op with us while pursuing her goal of becoming a firefighter/paramedic. We greatly appreciate the time, effort, and professionalism she brought to the department.

We hope her time with Bourne Fire/Rescue was a positive and worthwhile introduction to the fire service, and we wish her nothing but the best as she continues her education and works toward her career in the fire service.

📞 NOTICE: TEMPORARY PHONE SERVICE INTERRUPTION

The Bourne Fire/Rescue 10-digit emergency telephone number is currently out of service.

If you have an emergency, ALWAYS call 9-1-1. Emergency calls to 9-1-1 are not affected, and someone will always answer your call and dispatch the appropriate resources.

Please DO NOT call the department's business line to report emergencies, as it is not intended for emergency dispatching.

Our dispatch center is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we will provide an update once the 10-digit emergency number has been restored.

Congratulations to all of the newest graduates of Recruit Class BW40! 👏🔥

Bourne Fire/Rescue is proud to congratulate all of the graduates who successfully completed their firefighter training and earned their place in the fire service. Their dedication, commitment, and hard work throughout the academy are a tremendous accomplishment.

We are especially proud to recognize our own Firefighter Sabrina Tarara, who successfully completed BW40. Sabrina has been a valued member of the Bourne Fire/Rescue team since November, and we are excited to see her continue to grow and serve our community.

Some stories come full circle.

Twenty-three years ago, Lieutenant Edgcomb responded to a call that would become one of the most memorable of his career—helping deliver a baby during an emergency. Today, that baby has grown up to become Bourne Fire/Rescue Firefighter/Paramedic Dalton Watring.

It's a remarkable reminder of the lasting impact first responders have on the communities they serve. From helping welcome Dalton into the world to later serving alongside him, this story is a testament to the dedication, compassion, and tradition of service that define Bourne Fire/Rescue.

A 24-year veteran of the Bourne Fire Department recently discovered an interesting connection with one of the department's recruits—in 2003, Lieutenant Gregory C. Edgcomb, a rookie at the time, helped deliver a baby at a home in Cataumet following an annual day of solemn remembrance on September 11.

Not long after the ceremony’s conclusion, Edgcomb and another firefighter/EMT, William E. Palmer, who died in November 2005, were dispatched from the department’s Pocasset station to a home in Cataumet to transport to the hospital a young mother who was in labor.

Fast forward 23 years, and Edgcomb found himself chatting last week with the department’s newest recruit, Dalton A Watring. The more they talked, Edgcomb said, the more things began to sound astonishingly familiar to him, especially when the young man said he was from Cataumet and lived on the same street where Edgcomb had delivered a baby boy in 2003.

“I’m just looking at him, and I said, ‘How old are you?’” Edgcomb recalled, “and I questioned his birthday because I remembered the birth date was 9/11. I said, ‘Is it 9/11?’ He said, ‘Yeah,’ and I said, ‘I delivered you.’”

✅ Have served at least six (6) months as a paid firefighter in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; or

✅ Have prior service as a salaried firefighter in another jurisdiction, along with certification acceptable to the Massachusetts Fire Training Council.

🚒 Please join us in welcoming Firefighter/Paramedic Dalton Watring to Bourne Fire/Rescue!

Dalton is a lifelong resident of Bourne and continues to proudly call our community home. He holds an Associate Degree in Fire Science and is a Massachusetts certified Paramedic. We are excited to welcome him to the department and look forward to watching him begin his career serving the town where he was raised.

Dalton began his recruit training and orientation with the department today. Following his initial training, he will join one of our shifts before attending the Massachusetts Fire Academy Career Recruit Program as the next step in his fire service training and professional development.

Congratulations, Dalton, and welcome to the Bourne Fire/Rescue family! We look forward to seeing you do great things in service to our community.

🚒🐻 **Every day is different at Bourne Fire/Rescue.**

When you report for duty, you never know what the next call will bring. It could be responding in an ambulance for a medical emergency, searching for a missing person with our Marine Unit, extricating someone trapped in a motor vehicle crash, or extinguishing a structure fire.

Today added another one to the list.

Our crews were requested to assist Bourne Department of Natural Resources and the Massachusetts Environmental Police with the removal of a tranquilized bear from Scenic Park Campground.

Safe to say that wasn't on our 2026 Fire/Rescue Bingo card!

This call is a great reminder that we are truly an All-hazards Fire/Rescue Department. No matter the nature of the emergency, our members train to be ready, adapt to the situation, and work alongside our public safety partners to provide the assistance our community needs.

Thank you to Bourne Department of Natural Resources and the Massachusetts Environmental Police for the teamwork and coordination that helped bring this unusual incident to a safe conclusion.
